This page provides everything you need to get your Shaw email setup using Apple OS X Mail.

 

All of the required Settings are below, followed by a detailed walk-through under Instructions. For more information on different email account types, and setups such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

Settings

 

The following are for an IMAP account, which is the recommended type of account to sync with your Shaw email. For alternate account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

*May not be required during initial account setup. Enter if prompted.

When adding a new mail account, the default is POP3. To change this, enter your information with an incorrect password. This will prompt a message stating "Your account must be configured manually". Click next and it will allow you to toggle to IMAP and enter the appropriate settings shown above.

Instructions

 

These settings are for an IMAP account, which is the recommended type of account to sync with your Shaw email. For alternate account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

 

  1. Open your Apple OS X Mail application
  2. Add an email account
    1. If this is the first email account you are setting up in Apple Mail, you will be greeted with a "Welcome to Mail" message. If you were not presented with this screen, select Mail from the top-left of your screen and then select Preferences - Accounts. Choose the + button in the bottom-left corner of the window to create a new account.
    2. Select Add Other Mail Account... (Example 1)
    3. Click Continue or Create
    4. Enter your name, Shaw email address, and password
    5. Click Next
      • If you see Create instead of Next:
        • Do not click Create. Press and hold the Option key on your keyboard (found on the bottom row, one on each side of the space bar next to the Command key) - with Option held down, the Create button will change to display Next (Example 2)
  3. Enter Incoming Mail Server Info (Example 3)
    1. Account Type: IMAP
    2. Mail Server: imap.shaw.ca
    3. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    4. Password: Your email password
    5. Click Next
      • If you receive a Verify Certificate message, click Connect (Example 4)
  4. Enter Outgoing Mail Server Info (Example 5)
    1. SMTP Server: mail.shaw.ca
    2. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    3. Password: Your email password
  5. Click Create

Account Types

 

Which Email Setup is Right for Me?

 

There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP, and POP. Generally, we suggest using IMAP for OS X Mail setup, but each type has its own benefits. Check out the comparison chart below for more information on the differences between ActiveSync, IMAP, and POP..

POP Instructions

 

  1. Open your Apple OS X Mail application
  2. Add an email account
    1. If this is the first email account you are setting up in OS X Mail, you will be greeted with a "Welcome to Mail" message.     2. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    3. Password: Your email password
  5. Select Save
