    Overview

    Three options exist for setting up your Shaw email account on your Android device. POP/SMTP, ActiveSync (exchange) and IMAP. For information on which email setup method you should use, please refer to the "Which Email Setup Method is Right for Me" section. Instructions on how to set up your device for each option are listed below.

    Which Email Setup is Right for Me


    There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync, also known as Microsoft Exchange, IMAP and POP/SMTP. Generally, we suggest users use the "ActiveSync" email setup method, but each method has its own benefits.     Users who want to have access to their emails while offline should choose this setup method.

    DescriptionActiveSync allows you to sync your Webmail Contacts, Calendars and Reminders with your device. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail.

    IMAP works with your mail content on Shaw's servers. Moving, sending, or deleting tasks are performed on the server so your other devices and Shaw Webmail are kept in sync. A small cache (copy) of your email is kept on your device limiting off-line access.

    While using POP3 your email client downloads a copy of all mail received by the mailbox, optionally deleting the messages from Webmail. Any changes made only affect your emails on that device, and will not affect other devices or Webmail.

    ActiveSync (Exchange)


    ActiveSync (Exchange) offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server. Before you begin, please ensure that your Shaw email password meets the minimum security requirements.


    1. Open the App drawer on your Android device
    2. Select Email
    3. If this is the first email account to be configured on your phone, you will be provided with a setup screen. If this is not the first email account to be set up, select MENU and then select Add Account or Settings and then the + icon
    4. Enter your Shaw email address and password and select Next (Example 1)
    5. If automatic setup fails, select Manual Setup and tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (Example 2)
    6. Enter the following: (Example 3)
        • Domain/Username: Your Shaw email address*
        • Password: Your Shaw email password
        • Exchange Server: wm.shaw.ca
        • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
        • Use Client Certificate: No (no check mark)
    7. Select Next
    8. Choose your Sync Preferences (Example 4)
    9. Tap Finish Setup

    Please Note: If these fields are separate the domain will be @shaw.ca and your username will be your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca

    IMAP


    To set up your Shaw email account on your Android device using the IMAP configuration, you will require the following pieces of information. Before you begin, please ensure that your Shaw email password meets the minimum security requirements.


    1. Enable Remote Access
    2. Open the App drawer on your Android device
    3. Select Email
    4. Tap your MENU button
    5. Select Settings
    6. Select Add Account
    7. Enter your Shaw email and password, then select Manual Setup
    8. Choose IMAP account


    When required, enter the following details. Not all of these settings may be requested.


    Option 1: Mail Settings with SSL and Remote Access

    Incoming Mail Server Information:

    Mail Server (Host Name): imap.shaw.ca

    Incoming Port: 993

    Security Type: SSL

    Username: Shaw email without @shaw.ca

    Password: Your email password

    Outgoing Mail Server Information:

    Mail Server (Host Name): mail.shaw.ca

    Outgoing Port: 587

    Security Type: TLS

    Username: Shaw email without @shaw.ca

    Password: Your email password


    If available, please select the option to "accept all certificates" for both the SSL and TLS security types.


    SSL or "Secure Sockets Layer" works to keep your information secure. We highly recommend enabling it on your email setup configuration to help keep your information safe. If you would prefer to disable SSL authentication on your mail client you can use the steps below. This means that you will not need to enable remote access on your email account.



    Option 2: Mail Settings without SSL and Remote Access

    Incoming Mail Server Information:

    Incoming Mail Server:imap.shaw.ca

    Incoming Port: 143

    SSL: No

    Username: Shaw email without @shaw.ca

    Password: Your email password

    Outgoing Mail Server Information:

    Outgoing Mail Server: mail.shaw.ca

    Outgoing Port: 25

    SSL: No

    Username: Shaw email without @shaw.ca

    Password: Your email password

    POP/SMTP


    Follow these steps to configure your phone and Shaw.ca email address to sync over a POP/SMTP connection. Before you begin, please ensure that your Shaw email password meets the minimum security requirements.


    1. Enable Remote Access
    2. Select Application on your Android device
    3. Select Email
    4. If this is the first email account to be configured on your phone, you will be provided with a setup screen. If this is not the first email account to be set up, select Menu and then select Add Account
    5. Enter your full email address including @shaw.ca (Example 1)
    6. Enter your email password
    7. Select Manual Setup
    8. Select POP3 for the Protocol (Example 2)
    9. Enter the following information: for the Incoming Server Settings: (Example 3)
        • Username: your full email address without @shaw.ca
        • Password: your email password
        • POP Server: pop.shaw.ca
        • Security type: None
        • Server port: 110
    10. Choose Next
    11. Enter a check mark into the box next to Login required
    12. Enter the following information for the Outgoing Server Settings: (Example 4)
        • Username: your full email address without @shaw.ca
        • Password: your email password
        • SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca
        • Server port: 587
        • Security type: START TLS (accept all certificates) or TLS / START TLS only
    13. Enter a check mark into the box next to Require sign-in
    14. Choose Next
    15. Enter the following information:
        • Username: your email address without @shaw.ca
        • Password: your email password
    16. Select your email preferences if prompted (may differ depending on the model of your phone)
    17. Enter the following information: (Example 5)
        • Give this account a name (optional): Enter a name for your account  (for example: "My Shaw Account")
        • Your name (displayed on outgoing messages)
    18. Select Next or Finish to complete the setup

    Common Issues

    Password does not meet minimum security requirements:

    • Before setting up your mobile device you should confirm that your device meets the minimum password requirements listed here: Email Password Requirements
    • You can check to see if your device meets the minimum requirements through My Account. Details on how to do this can be found here: Remote Access


    Password is incorrect:

    • If the password you are entering does not match the one that you have setup on your Shaw email account than authentication will fail. You can confirm your password by logging in at webmail.shaw.ca
    • If you need to update your Shaw email password, you can do so through My Account. Details on how to do this can be found here: How to update/change your Shaw Webmail password
