Learn how to get your Shaw email setup on an Android device. All of the required Settings are below, along with a detailed walk-through Instructions. This article includes insight for setting up email for an ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP or POP accounts.Android Icon

Which Email Setup is Right for Me?

There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP, and POP. Generally, we suggest using the ActiveSync email setup method, but each has its own benefits. Please see the comparison chart below for more information on the differences between ActiveSync, IMAP, and POP.

ActiveSync settings/instructions

The settings included below are for an ActiveSync (Exchange) account, which is the recommended setup for your Shaw account. For different account types, such as IMAP and POP, please see the Account Types section below.

The instructions included below are for an ActiveSync (Exchange) account, which is the recommended setup for your Shaw email account. For different account types, such as IMAP and POP, please see the Account Types section.

 

  1. Launch your Email App
    1. Open the App drawer on your Android device
    2. Select Email
  2. Add an email account (Example 1)
    1. If this is the first email account to be configured on your device, you will be provided with a setup screen. If this is not the first email account to be set up, select Menu / More - Settings - Add Account
    2. Enter your Shaw email address and password
    3. Select Manual Setup
    4. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (Example 2)
  3. Verify server settings (Example 3)
    1. Email address: Your Shaw email address
    2. Domain/User name*: shaw.ca\username
    3. Password: Your Shaw email password
    4. Exchange Server: wm.shaw.ca
    5. Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
    6. Use Client Certificate: No (no check mark)
  4. Confirm additional account settings
    1. Choose sync settings (Example 4)
    2. Choose account name (Example 5)
  5. Select Done or Finish

 

*User name: your Shaw email without @shaw.ca

IMAP settings/instructions

Settings for IMAP email.

 

Follow these instructions to set up an IMAP email account.

 

  1. Launch your Email App
    1. Open the App drawer on your Android device
    2. Select Email
  2. Add an email account
    1. If this is the first email account to be configured on your device, you will be provided with a setup screen. If this is not the first email account to be set up, select Menu / More - Settings - Add Account
    2. Enter your Shaw email address and password
    3. Select Manual Setup
    4. Select IMAP Account
  3. Verify incoming server settings
    1. IMAP server: imap.shaw.ca
    2. Security type: SSL
    3. Port: 993
    4. User name: Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    5. Password: Your email password
  4. Verify outgoing server settings
    1. SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca
    2. Security type: TLS
      • On some devices, this may appear as StartTLS or StartTLS (accept all certificates)
    3. Port: 587
    4. User name: Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    5. Password: Your email password
  5. Confirm additional account settings
    1. Choose sync settings
    2. Choose account name and display name
  6. Select Done or Finish

POP settings/instructions

Settings for POP email.

 

Follow these instructions to set up a POP email account.

  1. Launch your Email App
    1. Open the App drawer on your Android device
    2. Select Email
  2. Add an email account
    1. If this is the first email account to be configured on your device, you will be provided with a setup screen.
      If this is not the first email account to be set up, select Menu / More - Settings - Add Account
    2. Enter your Shaw email address and password
    3. Select Manual Setup
    4. Select POP3 Account
  3. Verify incoming server settings
    1. POP server: pop.shaw.ca
    2. Security type: SSL
    3. Port: 995
    4. User name: Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    5. Password: Your email password
  4. Verify outgoing server settings
    1. SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca
    2. Security type: TLS
      • On some devices, this may appear as StartTLS or StartTLS (accept all certificates)
