Common Issues

Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

Additional Details

  • POP/SMTP Server: These servers enable your iPhone/iPad to send and receive email using your Shaw email account without affecting the contents of Webmail. Emails that you receive on your iPhone/iPad through the Mail application by default will remain on Webmail even if they are deleted on your device. Emails which are sent from your iPhone/iPad will be kept in your Sent Folder on your iPhone but will not appear in Webmail’s Sent Folder.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server: Enabling your Shaw email account on your device through a Microsoft Exchange Server allows you to synch your Webmail Contacts, Calendars and Reminders with your iPhone/iPad. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail. Calendar items can be viewed and modified through your Calendar application on your iPhone and through Webmail. Reminders for Calendar items (if specified) will also appear on your iPhone at the expected time.

Common Issues

  • Security Requirements for Mobile Access: If after setting up your email client you find that you are still unable to send or receive emails from your iPhone/iPad, please ensure that your password meets the minimum security requirements required for mobile access. If your password does not meet these requirements then mail setup will not work. In some situations, your password will work on other devices in the household but may still fail on your smart phone/tablet because of the additional restrictions required to use Shaw Webmail on your mobile device.

In this case you may have to change your password to meet the security requirements (seen below) and then update this password in any other household devices and programs where it may be saved (for example: Mac Mail, Outlook, Windows Live Mail, smart phone, tablet). Once updated you can proceed to setup your email client again with your new password.

  • Mobile Access Security Requirements
    • a minimum of 6 characters
    • at least 1 upper-case letter
    • at least 1 lower-case letter
    • a special character (e.g. ~!@#$%^&*() )
    • a number
    • all of the above requirements must be met within the first 8 characters of the password

How to update/change your Shaw Webmail password

  • Unable to Sync messages past 30 days (Exchange)
    1. After setting up your email account using the Exchange server settings, change the sync option to No Limit (under Mail Days to Sync)
    2. Open the Account screen and under Domain you should see "optional" currently set. Enter shaw.ca here
    3. When you close the window, if you have emails older than 30 days on the server they should now have synced to your iOS device
