Learn how to open a port for McAfee Internet Security traffic. Occasionally, you may find that a service or product which uses the internet is unable to effectively operate due to your antivirus software. This can happen when the "ports" that are used by the software have been blocked or limited. You can open these ports to allow proper network traffic flow to and from McAfee Internet Security.

Quick Steps

Here are the steps to open a port for McAfee Internet Security traffic.

  1. Open the McAfee Internet Security program
  2. Select the Web and Email Protection
  3. Select the Firewall link
  4. Select Ports and System Services
  5. Click Add
  6. Enter a program name, description, and the TCP or UDP port that you would like to open
  7. Change the drop-down option for the Open Ports to field to All PC’s
  8. Click Save

  1. Open the McAfee Internet Security program on your computer. You can do this by either double-clicking the McAfee icon  on your desktop or alternatively finding the program in your start menu
  2. Choose the Web and Email Protection option from the list, then select the Firewall link

  3. Within the Firewall menu, find and click on the Ports and System Services option. This will provide you with a list of the default ports currently available for you to open
  4. Click Add

    McAfee Internet Security > Ports and System Services > Add

  5. Enter a program name, category, and description in the corresponding fields so that you can recognize it later if you need to disable or modify it

  6. Enter the TCP or UDP port that you would like to open to network traffic
  7. Change the drop-down option for the Open Ports to field to All PC’s
  8. Click Save

    McAfee Internet Security > Ports > TCP Port

  9. Once you have saved your changes, you will once again see your new entry listed in the Ports and System Services drawer. Ensure that you have a checkmark in your newly created open port

    McAfee Internet Security > Ports and System Services > Device Name
