McAfee QuickClean is a tool available through McAfee Internet Security which:

  • Improves the performance of your PC by identifying and erasing unnecessary files, e-mails, and junk that take up valuable space and slow down your PC
  • Protects your privacy by deleting personal identification data which may remain after browsing the internet without deleting critical information
  • Reclaims valuable space on your PC’s hard drive by removing unwanted programs and files

QuickClean takes special precaution when deleting files to ensure that the files necessary for the proper operation of your computer are left untouched. QuickClean knows which files it should never remove, which files it can safely remove, and provides you with a warning before removing files so that you can choose whether you would like to keep the specified files instead.

McAfee QuickClean vs. Shredder

Both McAfee QuickClean and McAfee Shredder erase extraneous files and ensure that these files are unrecoverable. You would want to use the McAfee Shredder specifically if there are files which may be sensitive in nature or must be deleted for security reasons to ensure that even if a recovery tool were to be used on the PC, the files would be unrecoverable. If you want to erase files from your PC but would still like to be able to recover them, you will want to back up your files to an external hard drive or another secondary storage device before running McAfee Shredder.
