Learn how to set up your Shaw email in Outlook 2010. This document provides step-by-step instructions on how to configure Outlook 2010 to work with your Shaw email account. Use these settings to ensure your Shaw email is working with the Outlook 2010 Mail email client. You can use either IMAP or POP to set up your Shaw email in Outlook 2010.

Did You Know

 

ActiveSync (Exchange) is not available in Microsoft Outlook 2010. As a result the two options for mail servers are IMAP and POP.                

                                      
Account Types: Which email setup is right for me?

There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP, and POP. Generally, we suggest using the ActiveSync email setup method, but each has its own benefits. ActiveSync (Exchange) is not available in Outlook 2010.

IMAP settings

The settings included below are for an IMAP account, which is our recommended setup for Outlook 2010. IMAP allows you to sync email with multiple devices.

POP settings

The settings included below are for a POP account, which you can use to set up your Shaw email for Outlook 2010. POP allows you to store your email locally.

Email setup using IMAP or POP mail servers

POP stands for Post Office Protocol. POP is an Internet protocol used for receiving email by downloading it to your computer from a mailbox on the server of an Internet service provider. Follow these steps to configure your iPad to send and receive emails using a POP/SMTP server.

 

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2010
  2. Add an email account
    1. Select File from the upper left-hand corner of the screen
    2. Select Info, and then choose Add Account (Example 1)
    3. Click Add an Account
    4. Select Manual setup or additional server types (Example 2)
    5. Click Next
    6. Select Internet Email and then click Next (Example 3)
  3. Enter account settings (Example 4)
    1. Your Name: The name that you would like to associate with this e-mail account
    2. Email address: Your Shaw email address
    3. Account Type (choose only one option that depending on if you are using IMAP vs. POP):
      1. For IMAP select IMAP
      2. For POP select POP3
    4. Incoming mail server:
      1. For IMAP: imap.shaw.ca
      2. For POP: pop.shaw.ca
    5. Outgoing mail server: mail.shaw.ca
    6. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    7. Password: Your Shaw email password
  4. Select More Settings (Example 5)
    1. Select the Outgoing Server and enter the following information (Example 6)
      • Place a check mark next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
      • Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    2. Select the Advanced Tab and enter the following information for IMAP: (Example 7)
      • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
    3. For POP:
      • Incoming Server (POP): 995
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing Server (SMTP): 587
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
    4. Click OK
  5. Select the option to Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button, then click Next
  6. Click Finish

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and is an Internet standard for sending and receiving email. Typically used when email is delivered from an email client such as Outlook to an email server (often referred to as a "store" and "forward" process).
