Samsung Galaxy S3 SmartphoneLearn how to connect your Samsung Galaxy S3 phone to WiFi as well as how to setup your Shaw email account through IMAP or Exchange. While there are three options for setting up your email on a Galaxy S3 phone, the preferred setup method is IMAP. For more information, see Samsung Galaxy S3 Product Support.

Email Setup: IMAP

The IMAP setup procedure described below can be used to set up your Shaw.ca email address. To configure your Samsung Galaxy S3 to send and receive emails using IMAP server settings:

 

  1. On your Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, open Settings
  2. Tap Add account
  3. Tap Email
  4. Enter your Shaw.ca email address and password
  5. Tap Manual Setup
  6. Select the option for IMAP account, then enter the following Incoming server settings:
    • Username: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • IMAP Server: imap.shaw.ca
    • Security type: SSL 
    • Port: 993
  7. Tap Next
  8. Enter Outgoing server settings:
    • SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca
    • Security type: SSL
    • Port: 587
    • Ensure Require sign-in option is checked
    • Username: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
  9. Choose your account options (sync schedule, sync email etc). Tap Next
  10. Enter a name for this mail account (for example "My Shaw Account")
  11. Tap Done to complete setup

Email setup: ActiveSync/Microsoft Exchange

To configure your Samsung Galaxy S3 phone to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Select the APPS button on your Samsung Galaxy S3
  3. Select Email
  4. Enter your Shaw email account and password information
  5. Select Manual Setup
  6. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  7. Enter the following:
    • Domain/Username: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Server Address: wm.shaw.ca
    • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
    • Client Certificate: No (no check mark)
  8. Choose Next
  9. Choose which services you would like to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendar)
  10. Enter a name for your account (for example "My Shaw Account")
  11. Press Next to complete the setup

WiFi setup

To connect your Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone to your wireless (WiFi) network, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press the MENU button on your Samsung Galaxy S3
  2. Select Settings
  3. Slide the Wi-Fi option to the On position (green icon)
  4. Tap Wi-Fi
  5. Select the network that you would like to connect to
  6. Enter the network password. (unless the network is open and requires no password)
  7. Press Connect

 

If you are using a Shaw wireless modem you can find your network name and password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*.

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.
