This guide will show you how to setup and connect your Xbox 360 gaming system, which can be connected to your Shaw internet service to play games online, download additional content and even to update the Xbox 360 system software.

Connect your Xbox 360 system to your TV

 

  1. Connect the power cable supplied with your Xbox 360 into the console and into an available wall outlet.

  1. Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI port in the back of the Xbox 360. If you are using an older Xbox 360, or a TV that is not HD compatible, then you may need to use alternative composite audio/video cables.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to your high definition TV or monitor.

Basic Wireless Setup

 

  1. Before you are able to use the Internet services associated with your Xbox 360 you will need to sign up for an Xbox Live account. More information on this can be found at Microsoft's website: Xbox LIVE Membership
  2. Press the GUIDE button on your controller
  3. Choose Settings and then select System Settings
  4. Select Network Settings
  5. Select the wireless network to which you would like to connect based on its listed name (called the SSID). If you do not know your SSID, this information can be found on the white sticker on the top of your SMC or Cisco Shaw wireless modem* (highlighted below).

 

Find Wireless Security Key

 

  1. Enter your wireless network password (also called the Pre-shared Key or Passphrase). If you are connecting using a Shaw wireless modem, the password is listed on a white sticker affixed to your modem*. 
  2. Select Yes if you are prompted to update your system software.

 

*If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings.

  2. Connect your Xbox 360 console to your Shaw Internet modem or wireless modem with an Ethernet cable.

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller (Xbox button in the center of your controller)
  2. Go to Settings and then select System Settings
  3. Select Network Settings
  4. Select Wired Network if prompted
  5. Select Test Xbox LIVE connection
  6. Select Yes if you are prompted to update your system software
