HTC One X PhoneFind out how to set up WiFi and your Shaw.ca email account using IMAP or Microsoft Exchange on your HTC One X phone. Although IMAP is the recommended email setup method, you can also set up your email using POP or Microsoft Exchange. For additional information on your phone, visit HTC One X Product Support.

IMAP email setup

We recommend that you use IMAP to set up your Shaw.ca email address on your HTC One X phone as it is the preferred email setup method for your Shaw email. Use these instructions for first-time set up of your Shaw.ca email on your HTC One X phone.

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Select Mail
  4. Tap Accounts & Sync
  5. Select Add
  6. Choose Other (POP3/IMAP) on the Choose a mail provider screen
  7. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  8. Select Manual Setup
  9. Enter the following Incoming server settings:
    • Protocol: IMAP Email Server Settings
    • Email Address: Your @shaw.ca email address
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
    • Password: Your Shaw email password
    • POP/IMAP Server: imap.shaw.ca
    • Security type: SSL
    • Server Port: 993
  10. Choose Next
  11. Enter the following for the Outgoing settings:
    • Ensure that the Login required checkbox is checked
    • SMTP Server: mail.shaw.ca
    • Security type: SSL
    • Server Port: 587
  12. Choose Next
  13. Enter an Account name: (Example: Shaw Email)
  14. Enter Your name (the name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email)
  15. Tap Finish setup

 

To edit your Account settings:

  1. From within your email account, click the Menu option (near the top right of the screen)
  2. Select Settings
    • Tap Account settings (if needed) to change your username, password or server information
    • Tap General settings to change items such as email font size or email signature
    • Tap Sync, Send & Receive to set syncing options and frequency
  3. Exit settings by pressing the Home key on your phone

Microsoft Exchange email setup

You can use Microsoft Exchange to set up your Shaw.ca email address on your HTC One X phone as it allows advanced email handling and synchronized calendars and contacts and is less confusing for accounts connected to multiple devices simultaneously. To set up your Shaw.ca email on your HTC One X phone via Exchange:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Tap Accounts & Sync
  5. Select Add
  6. Choose Exchange ActiveSync
  7. Select Manual Setup
  8. Enter the following:
    • Email Address: Your @shaw.ca email address
    • Server Address: wm.shaw.ca
    • Domain: shaw.ca
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
    • Password: Your Shaw email password
    • This server requires an encrypted SSL connection: Yes (add a check mark)
  9. Choose Next
  10. Tap OK
  11. Enable Contacts and Calendar syncing options as per your preference
  12. Tap Next
  13. Name the account and choose Finish Setup

WiFi setup

Connect to your wireless (WiFi) network on your HTC One X by following these steps:

 

  1. Tap MENU
  2. Select Settings
  3. Confirm the WiFi option is turned On
  4. Tap WiFi
  5. Select the network that you would like to connect to
  6. Enter the network password (unless the network is open and does not require a password)
  7. Press Connect

 
If you are connecting to your home Shaw WiFi network and have a Shaw WiFi modem, you can find the network name (SSID) and password located on the white sticker on the back or bottom of your wireless modem.

Did You Know?

 

If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.
