This guide will explain how to connect your Apple iPad to a wireless network connection as well as demonstrate how to setup your Shaw email account through an exchange or POP/SMTP server. Click on any of the links below to be redirected to the relevant instructions.

WiFi Setup

 

  1. Tap on the Settings icon on your home screen.

  1. Once the settings screen has appeared, tap Wi-Fi from the left menu.

  1. On the right side of the screen you will see a switch to turn the wifi On or Off. Please ensure Wi-Fi is set to On.

  1. As shown above, you will be presented with a list of the available wireless networks in your area. Please tap on the network to which you would like to connect. If you are connecting to a wireless network provided by a Shaw wireless modem, the network name (also called the SSID) is listed on a sticker affixed to the modem*.
  2. If the wireless network requires a password, you will need to enter it in the pop-up window that appears. If you are connecting to a wireless network provided by a Shaw wireless modem, the password (also called the Pre-Shared Key or Passphrase) is listed on a sticker affixed to the modem*.

  1. With the password entered, please tap Join on the right. In a moment, your wireless connection will be active and ready for use

 

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings.

Microsoft Exchange Email Setup

 

The Microsoft Exchange setup procedure described below is the preferred setup method for your Shaw.ca email address. Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

 

To configure your phone/tablet to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

To configure your iPad to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

  1. Enable Remote Access (click the link for instructions) and ensure that your password meets the minimum security requirements (See: security requirements)
  2. Touch the Settings icon on the Home screen
  3. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  4. Select Add Account
  5. Select Microsoft Exchange
  6. Enter the following information under Exchange for the Incoming Mail Server:
      • Email: Shaw email address including @shaw.ca
      • Server: wm.shaw.ca
      • Domain: Leave as optional
      • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your email password
      • Description: This can be left blank (optional)
  7. Select Next
  8. Enter the following into Server: wm.shaw.ca
  9. Select Next
  10. Turn on Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Reminders
  11. Select Save

 

Your iPad has now been configured for use with your Shaw.ca email address via Microsoft Exchange. You can now access your mail from the Mail app presented on your home screen.

POP Email Setup

 

To configure your iPhone/iPad to send and receive emails using a POP/SMTP Server:


  1. Enable Remote Access (click the link for instructions) and ensure that your password meets the minimum security requirements (See: security requirements)
  2. Touch the Settings icon on the Home screen.
  3. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  4. Select Add Account
  5. Select Other
  6. Select Add Mail Account. Enter your account information
  7. Select Next
  8. Choose the POP button from the top of the screen
  9. Enter the following information for the Incoming Mail Server:
      • Host Name: pop.shaw.ca
      • User Name: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your email password
  10. Enter the following information for the Outgoing Mail Server:
      • Host Name: mail.shaw.ca
      • User Name: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your email password
  11. Select Save and wait until Verifying... clears from the screen
  12. Select Continue if prompted with the message: Cannot verify server identity
  13. Select Yes when you see the message Cannot Connect Using SSL

 

To confirm the new settings are functioning correctly (optional)

 

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendar
  3. Select your email account from the list
  4. Select SMTP below Outgoing Mail Server
  5. Select Primary Server
  6. Server should be set to ON. Slide the switch beside Server if this is not the case
  7. Enter the following information if it has not been filled in correctly for the Outgoing Mail Server:
      • Host Name: mail.shaw.ca
      • User Name: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your email password
      • Use SSL: ON
      • Authentication: Password
      • Server Port: 587
  8. Select Save

 

Your iPad has now been configured for use with your Shaw.ca email address via POP/SMTP.  You can now access your mail from the Mail app presented on your home screen.
