Here we'll cover everything needed to get your Shaw email setup in Outlook 2013. All of the required Settings are below, followed by a detailed walk-through under Instructions. For more information on different email account types, and setups such as IMAP and POP, please see the Account Types section.

The settings included below are for an IMAP account, which is our recommended setup. For different account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

Instructions

 

The settings included below are for an IMAP account, which is our recommended setup. For different account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

 

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2013

  2. Add an email account

    1. Select File from the upper left hand corner of the screen

    2. Select Info, and then choose Add Account (Example 1)

    3. Click Add an Account

    4. Select Manual setup or additional server types (Example 2)

    5. Click Next

    6. Select POP or IMAP and then click Next
  3. Enter account settings (Example 3)

    1. Your Name: The name that you would like to associate with this e-mail account
    2. Email address: Your Shaw email address

    3. Account Type: IMAP
    4. Incoming mail server: imap.shaw.ca

    5. Outgoing mail server: mail.shaw.ca
    6. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca

    7. Password: Your Shaw email password

  4. Select More Settings (Example 4)
    1. Select the Outgoing Server and enter the following information (Example 5)
      • Place a check mark next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
      • Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    2. Select the Advanced Tab and enter the following information (Example 6)
      • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
    3. Click OK
  5. Select the option to Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button, then click Next
  6. Click Finish

Account Types

 

Which Email Setup is Right for Me?

 

There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP, and POP. Generally, we suggest using the ActiveSync email setup method, but each has its own benefits. Check out the comparison chart below for a bit more information on the differences between ActiveSync, IMAP, and POP..

POP Instructions

 

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2013
  2. Add an email account
    1. Select File from the upper left hand corner of the screen
    2. Select Info, and then choose Add Account
    3. Click Add an Account
    4. Select Manual setup or additional server types

    6. Select POP or IMAP and then click Next
  3. Enter account settings

    4. Incoming mail server: pop.shaw.ca
    5. Outgoing mail server: mail.shaw.ca
    6. User Name: Your Shaw email without @shaw.ca
    7. Password: Your Shaw email password
  4. Select More Settings
    1. Select the Outgoing Server and enter the following information
      • Place a check mark next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
      • Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    2. Select the Advanced Tab and enter the following information
      • Incoming server (POP): 995
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
    3. Click OK
  5. Select the option to Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button, then click Next
