Here we'll cover everything needed to get your Shaw email setup in the Windows Live Mail email program. All of the required Settings are below, followed by a detailed walk-through under Instructions. For more information on different email account types, and setups such as IMAP and POP, please see the Account Types section.

The settings included below are for an IMAP account, which is our recommended setup. For different account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

Instructions

 

The settings included below are for an IMAP account, which is our recommended setup. For different account types, such as POP and ActiveSync, please see the Account Types section.

 

  1. Open Windows Live Mail
  2. Add an email account
    1. Select File from the menu at the top of the window
    2. Select Options
    3. Choose Email Accounts...
    4. Select Add
    5. Select Email Account
  3. Enter the following information:
    1. Email address: Your Shaw email address
    2. Password: Your Shaw email password
    3. Remember this password: Yes (add a check mark)
    4. Display name for your sent messages: Your first and last name e.g. John Smith
    5. Manually configure server settings: Yes (add a check mark)
    6. Select Next
  4. Enter Incoming server information
    1. Server type: IMAP
    2. Server address: imap.shaw.ca
      • Port: 993
    3. Logon user name: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
  5. Enter outgoing server information
    1. Server address: mail.shaw.ca
      • Port: 587
      • Requires authentication: Yes (add a check mark)
  6. Click Next and then Finish

Account Types

 

Which Email Setup is Right for Me?

 

There are three different ways you can set up your Shaw email account on your device or email client. These include ActiveSync (Exchange), IMAP, and POP. Generally, we suggest using the ActiveSync email setup method, but each has its own benefits. Check out the comparison chart below for a bit more information on the differences between ActiveSync, IMAP, and POP..

POP Instructions
