This guide will explain how to connect your Sony Xperia Z1 phone to WiFi and also demonstrate how to setup your Shaw email account through an exchange or POP server. Click on any of the links below to be redirected to the relevant instructions.

WiFi Setup

 

Enable WiFi on your device

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Drag the slider beside WiFi to the right to turn on the WiFi function

 

To connect to a WiFi Network

  1. Make sure that the WiFi function is turned on
  2. Drag the status bar downwards, then tap the Settings icon
  3. Tap WiFi. All networks should be displayed
  4. Tap the WiFi network that you would like to connect to
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network name by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem**
  5. If it is a secured network, enter the relevant password
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem**
  6. Your will now connect to your WiFi network

 

 

** If you have customized your network name (SSID) and password and can no longer remember the login credentials you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings

Microsoft Exchange Email Setup

 

The Microsoft Exchange setup procedure described below is the preferred setup method for your Shaw.ca email address. Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

 

To configure your Sony Xperia Z1 to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Drag the status bar downwards from the Home screen, then tap the Settings icon
  3. Scroll down to Accounts-Sync and tap Add account
  4. Select Email
  5. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  6. Select Exchange ActiveSync
  7. Enter the following:
      • Domain/Username: your Shaw email address, including @shaw.ca
      • Password: your Shaw email password
      • Server: wm.shaw.ca
      • Use secure connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
      • Accept all SSL certificates: Yes (add a check mark)
      • Use client certificate: No (no check mark)
  8. Tap Next
  9. Choose your account settings
  10. Tap Next
  11. Setup will now finish, and emails will populate on your account shortly

POP Email Setup

 

To configure your Xperia Z1 phone to send and receive emails using a POP/SMTP Server:

 

  1. Enable Remote Access on your Shaw email account
  2. Drag the status bar down from the Home screen, then tap the Settings icon
  3. Scroll down to Accounts-Sync and tap Add Account
  4. Select Email
  5. Enter your Shaw.ca email and password
  6. Tap Manual Setup
  7. Tap POP3 Account
  8. Enter the following information for the Incoming Server Settings:
      • Username: your Shaw.ca email address
      • Password: your Shaw.ca email password
      • Incoming Server Address: pop.shaw.ca
      • Security Type: none
      • Server port: 110
  9. Select Next
  10. Enter a check mark into the box next to Login required
  11. Enter the following information for the Outgoing Server Settings:
      • Username: your Shaw.ca email address
      • Password: your Shaw.ca email password
      • SMTP server address: mail.shaw.ca
      • Server port: 587
      • Security Type: START TLS (accept all certificates) or TLS/START TLS only
  12. Enter a check mark into the box next to Require Sign-in
  13. Choose Next
  14. Give your account a name and tap Next or Finish to complete setup
