Email and WiFi Guide - Samsung Note 3

This guide will explain how to connect your Samsung Note 3 phone to WiFi and also demonstrate how to setup your Shaw email account through an exchange or POP server. Click on any of the links below to be redirected to the relevant instructions.

WiFi Setup

 

  1. On the Applications screen, tap Settings
  2. Select Connections
  3. Drag the Wi-Fi switch to the right, then tap Wi-Fi
  4. Select the network that you would like to connect to
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network name by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*
  5. Enter the network password. (unless the network is open and requires no password)
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*
  6. Press Connect

 

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and password and can no longer remember the login credentials you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings

Exchange Email Setup (Recommended)

 

The Microsoft Exchange setup procedure described below is the preferred setup method for your Shaw.ca email address. Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

 

To configure your phone/tablet to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Tap General
  5. Select Accounts and then tap Add Account
  6. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  7. Enter your Shaw.ca email address and password, then select Manual Setup
  8. Enter the following:
      • Domain/Username: Your Shaw email address with @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your Shaw email password
      • Exchange Server: wm.shaw.ca
      • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
      • Use Client Certificate: No (no check mark)
  9. Select Next
  10. If prompted with an Activation check, select OK
  11. Choose your account sync preferences, then press Next
  12. Name your account
  13. Select Done

POP Email Setup

 

Follow theses steps to configure your phone and Shaw.ca email address to sync over a POP connection.

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Tap General
  5. Select Accounts and then tap Add Account
  6. Enter your Shaw.ca email address and password, then select Manual Setup
  7. Select POP3 Account
  8. Enter the following:
      • Username: Your Shaw email address
      • Password: Your Shaw email password
      • POP3 Server: pop.shaw.ca
      • Security Type: None
      • Port: 110
      • Delete Mail from Server: Never
  9. Select Next
  10. Enter the following:
      • SMTP Server: mail.shaw.ca
      • Security Type: TLS (Accept all certificates)
      • Port: 587
      • Require Sign In: Yes (add a check mark)
      • Username: Your Shaw email address
      • Password: Your Shaw email password
  11. Select Next
  12. Choose an account name and press Next to finish setup
