This guide will explain how to connect your Motorola "Moto X" Android phone to WiFi and also demonstrate how to setup your Shaw email account through an exchange or POP server. WiFi Setup

 

  1. Turn on WiFi by touching the Apps icon
  2. Select Settings
  3. Tap Wi-Fi power switch to enable Wi-Fi
  4. Drag down the status bar from the top of the screen and touch Wi-Fi networks available
  5. Select the network that you would like to connect to
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network name by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*
  6. Enter the network password (unless the network is open and requires no password)
      • If you are using a Shaw Wireless Modem you will be able to find your network password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*
  7. Press Connect

 


* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and password and can no longer remember the login credentials you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings

Microsoft Exchange Email Setup

 

Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

 

To configure your phone/tablet to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap the APPS icon on your Moto X
  3. Select Settings
  4. Under Accounts, touch +Add Account
  5. Select Email
  6. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  7. Tap Manual Setup
  8. Select Exchange
  9. Enter the following:
      • Domain/Username: Your Shaw email address
      • Server Address: wm.shaw.ca
      • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
      • Accept all SSL Certificates: Yes (add a check mark)
  10. Choose Next
  11. Choose which services you would like to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendar), tap Next
  12. Enter an account name and select Done to finish setup

POP Email Setup

 

Follow theses steps to configure your phone and Shaw.ca email address to sync over a POP connection. Click here for more information on Exchange vs. POP/SMTP

 

  1. Enable Remote Access on your Shaw email account
  2. Tap the APPS icon on your Moto X
  3. Select Settings
  4. Under Accounts, touch +Add Account
  5. Select Email
  6. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  7. Tap Manual Setup
  8. Choose POP3, then select Next
  9. Enter the following:
      • Server Type: POP3
      • POP3/IMAP Server: pop.shaw.ca
      • Incoming Port: 110
  10. Select Next
  11. Enter the following:
      • Outgoing Server: mail.shaw.ca
      • Outgoing Port: 587
      • Use Secure Server: Yes
      • Security Type:TLS
  12. Select Next
  13. Enter your Username, which is your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
  14. Enter your Shaw email password
  15. Tap Next
  16. Give your account a name (for example: My Shaw Account)
  17. Select Done
