How to set up email and WiFi - LG G2

LG G2 PhoneThis article provides instruction on how to connect to WiFi and set up your email via IMAP or Exchange (ActiveSync) on your LG G2 Android phone. Note that it is recommended that you set up your Shaw.ca email address via IMAP as it is the preferred email setup method. Continue reading for details.

IMAP email setup

Follow these instructions to configure your LG G2 phone to send and receive emails using IMAP server settings:


  1. Tap the APPS
  2. Select Email
  3. If you already have an email account set up, touch MENU. If this is the first account you're adding, go to Step 5
  4. Select Settings > Add Account
  5. Choose IMAP
  6. Enter your Shaw email address and password*
  7. Select Manual Setup, then enter the following Incoming server settings:
    • Email address: Your Shaw email address
    • Incoming Server: imap.shaw.ca
    • Domain: Leave blank
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Port number: 993
    • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
  8. Choose Next
  9. Enter the following Outgoing server settings:
    • SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca
    • Security type: SSL
    • Port number: 587
    • Ensure Require sign-in option is checked
  10. Choose Next
  11. Choose which services you would like to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendar), then tap Next
  12. Enter an account name and select Done to finish setup

 

*Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements

Microsoft Exchange email setup

Setting up your Shaw.ca email account using the Microsoft Exchange email setup method shown below will allow advanced email handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices at once, and synchronization of calendars and contacts. Follow these instructions to configure your LG G2 phone to send and receive emails using this type of server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap the APPS
  3. Select Email
  4. If you already have an email account set up, touch MENU. If this is the first account you're adding, go to Step 6
  5. Select Settings > Add Account
  6. Choose Microsoft Exchange
  7. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  8. Select Manual Setup, then enter the following:
    • Email address: Your Shaw email address
    • Server address: wm.shaw.ca
    • Domain: Leave blank
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
  9. Choose Next
  10. Choose which services you would like to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendar), then tap Next
  11. Enter an account name and select Done to finish setup

WiFi setup

To connect to WiFi on your LG G2 phone, follow the steps below.

 

  1. Tap the APPS
  2. Select the Apps tab
  3. Choose Settings
  4. Select the Networks tab
  5. Tap WiFi
  6. Set WiFi to ON to turn it on and start scanning for available WiFi networks
  7. Tap the WiFi menu again to see a list of available networks
  8. Select the network that you would like to connect to
  9. Enter the network password (unless the network is open and requires no password)
  10. Press Connect

 

If you are connecting to your home Shaw WiFi network and have a Shaw WiFi modem, you can find the network name (SSID) and password located on the white sticker on the back or bottom of your wireless modem.

Did You Know?

 

If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.
