Nokia Lumia 1020 PhoneConnect to WiFi and email via IMAP or Exchange (ActiveSync) on your new Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows 8 phone. IMAP is the preferred and recommended email setup method, but you can also use Exchange or POP servers to set up your email.

IMAP email setup

To configure your Nokia Lumia 1020 phone to send and receive emails using an IMAP server:

 

  1. Go to the main Menu of your Nokia Lumina 1020 phone
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select email+accounts
  4. Select add an account
  5. Select advanced setup
  6. Enter the following:
    • Email address: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password*
  7. Select Next
  8. Select Internet email
  9. Enter the following:
    • Account name: Your Shaw email address
    • Your name: Your name (this will be the name the recipient sees when they see an email from you)
    • Incoming email server: imap.shaw.ca
    • Account type: IMAP (may say IMAP4)**
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without the "@shaw.ca"
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Outgoing (SMTP) email server: mail.shaw.ca***
    • Ensure that Outgoing server required authentication is checked
    • Ensure the Use the same username and password for sending email field is checked
  10. Select advanced settings
    • Ensure that the Require SSL for incoming email and Require SSL for outgoing mail are both checked
    • Select sync options for email
  11. To complete setup, press Sign In

 

*Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements

** If prompted for an incoming server port, use: 993

*** If prompted for an Outgoing (SMTP) server, use 587

Microsoft Exchange email setup

The Microsoft Exchange email setup procedure described below can be used to setup your Shaw.ca email address as it offers advanced handling of email, synchronization of calendars and contacts, and less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices. To configure your Nokia Lumia 1020 phone to send and receive emails using an Exchange server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Tap Email
  3. Tap Add an Account
  4. Tap Outlook
  5. Enter the following:
    • Email address: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
  6. Tap Sign In
  7. An error message will appear saying We couldn't find your settings
  8. Enter the following:
    • Email address: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
    • Domain: shaw.ca
  9. Tap Advanced, and type the following:
    • Server: wm.shaw.ca
  10. Tap Show All Settings, and set the following: 
    • Server Requires Encrypted (SSL) Connection: Yes (add a check mark)
  11. Tap Sign In

WiFi setup

Set up a wireless connection (WiFi) on your Nokia Lumia 1020 phone by:

 

  1. Swipe your screen to the left
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select WiFi
  4. Turn WiFi On using the toggle button
  5. Tap on the network that you would like to connect to from the available list
  6. Enter the network password (unless the network is open and requires no password)

 

If you are connecting to your home Shaw WiFi network and have a Shaw WiFi modem, you can find the network name (SSID) and password located on the white sticker on the back or bottom of your wireless modem.

Did You Know?

 

If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.
