Email and Wireless Guide - Samsung ATIV S

This guide will explain how to connect your Samsung ATIV S Windows 8 phone to WiFi and also demonstrate how to setup your Shaw email account through an exchange or POP server. Click on any of the links below to be redirected to the relevant instructions.

WiFi Setup

 

  1. Open the Applications screen
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Choose System
  4. Tap WiFi and then slide the WiFi Networking switch to the right to enable WiFi
  5. A list of available WiFi Networks will appear automatically. Select the WiFi network that you would like to connect to, then tap done.

 

If you are connecting to your home Shaw WiFi network and have a Shaw WiFi modem, you can find the SSID (network name) and password located on the white sticker on the back or bottom of your wireless modem.

 

 

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and password and can no longer remember the login credentials you will need to restore your Wireless Modem to the default settings

Microsoft Exchange Email Setup

 

The Microsoft Exchange setup procedure described below is the preferred setup method for your Shaw.ca email address. Exchange offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. Any emails sent from this device will appear on Webmail and any emails deleted from the device will also be deleted from Webmail and the server.

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Open Settings
  3. Tap Email + Accounts
  4. Select Add an Account
  5. Choose Outlook
  6. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  7. Tap Sign In
  8. Enter the following information:
      • Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
      • Domain: shaw.ca
  9. Tap Sign In
  10. If the ATIV S cannot automatically find your email information, tap Advanced
  11. Tap Server and enter the following: wm.shaw.ca
  12. Tap Show All Settings and enter the following:
      • Server Requires Encrypted (SSL) Connection: Yes (add a check mark)

POP Email Setup

 

Follow theses steps to configure your phone and Shaw.ca email address to sync over a POP connection.

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Open Settings
  3. Tap Email + Accounts
  4. Select Add an Account
  5. Choose Other Account (POP and IMAP)
  6. Enter your Shaw email address and password
  7. Tap Sign In
  8. Enter your account name and touch Sign In
  9. If account cannot be setup automatically, tap advanced
  10. Tap Internet Email
  11. Enter the following information:
      • Account Name: The name you will see on the accounts screen
      • Your Name: The name people will see when you send them an email from this account
      • Incoming Email Server: pop.shaw.ca
      • Account Type: POP3
      • User Name: Your Shaw email account without @shaw.ca
      • Password: Your Shaw email password
      • Outgoing (SMTP) email server: mail.shaw.ca
      • Outgoing Server Requires Authentication: Yes (add a check mark)
  12. Under Advanced Settings, enter the following information:
      • Require SSL for Outgoing Email: Yes (add a check mark)
  13. Tap Sign In
