How to set up email and WiFi - Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge

Samsung Galaxy 4 Note SmartphoneLearn how to connect your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Note Edge phone to WiFi as well as how to setup your Shaw email account through an Exchange server.  While there are three options for setting up your email on a Galaxy Note 4 phone, the preferred setup method is ActiveSync/Exchange. Microsoft Exchange (ActiveSync) is the most convenient way to setup your email and is recommended as it is the best option for users looking to check mail worldwide and from different computers/devices.

Preferred email setup: ActiveSync/Microsoft Exchange

To configure your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Note Edge phone to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:


  1. Tap Apps
  2. Select Email
  3. Tap the Menu icon. If this is the first account you are setting up on this device you will be automatically prompted to begin setting up your new account (Step 6)
  4. Tap Settings
  5. Select Manage Accounts
  6. Tap the + icon to create a new account
  7. Enter your email address and password
  8. Tap Manual Setup
  9. Select the option for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, then enter the following:
    • Domain/Username: Your Shaw email address
    • Password: Your Shaw email address password
    • Exchange Server:
    • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
    • Use Client Certificate: No (remove check mark)
  10. Tap Next
  11. Choose your account options and which services you would like to sync (mail, contacts, and calendars)
  12. Enter a name for this email account (for example "My Shaw Account")
  13. Tap Done to complete the setup

WiFi setup

To connect your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone or Note Edge to your wireless (WiFi) network, follow these steps:


  1. Tap Apps
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Choose WiFi
  4. Ensure that the WiFi switch is On
  5. Select your WiFi network.
  6. Enter your WiFi network password
  7. Tap Connect


If you are using a Shaw wireless modem you can find your network name and password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*.

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.
