How to set up email and WiFi - HTC M8

HTC M8 PhoneIf you have an HTC M8 phone and want to set up WiFi and your email account via an ActiveSync (Exchange) server, which is the recommended email setup method, click on the links below.

Microsoft Exchange email setup

Learn how to set up your email address on your HTC M8 phone by following the instructions below. Although it is possible to setup your email using POP or IMAP servers, we highly recommend that you use ActiveSync (Exchange). It offers advanced mail handling, synchronization with your calendars and contacts, and is less confusing for accounts when they are connected to several devices at once.


  1. Tap the Apps icon
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap the General tab
  4. Tap Accounts & Sync
  5. Tap Add Account
  6. Select Microsoft Exchange
  7. Enter your Shaw email account and password
  8. Select Manual Setup
  9. Enter the following: 
    • Server Address:
    • Domain: Your Shaw email address
    • Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes (add a check mark)
  10. Choose Next
  11. Choose which services you would like to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendar)
  12. Tap Activate
  13. Enter a name for your account (for example "My Shaw Account"), then tap Next
  14. Tap Done to complete the setup

WiFi setup

Connect your HTC M8 phone to your wireless (WiFi) network by following these steps:


  1. Tap Apps
  2. Select the Settings app
  3. Touch the WiFi On-Off toggle to enable WiFi
  4. Tap WiFi to see a list of available networks
  5. Select your WiFi network from the list
  6. Enter your network password
  7. After a few moments you should be connected to WiFi

If you are connecting to your home Shaw WiFi network and have a Shaw WiFi modem, you can find the network name (SSID) and password located on the white sticker on the back or bottom of your wireless modem.
