How to set up email and WiFi - Android Lollipop

Android Lollipop PhoneLearn how to connect your Android Lollipop device to WiFi as well as how to setup your Shaw email account through an Exchange server.  While there are three options for setting up your email on an Android Lollipop device including Exchange, the preferred setup method is IMAP. Email Setup: ActiveSync/Microsoft Exchange

ActiveSync (Exchange) offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. To configure your Lollipop device to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:


  1. Ensure that your email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Open the Gmail app
  3. If you already have an email account in Gmail, tap the menu at the top left
    • From the resulting menu, tap your existing email account
    • Tap Add account
  4. If you do not already have an email account in Gmail, tap Add another email address
  5. Tap Exchange, if available. Otherwise, tap Personal
  6. Tap Ok
  7. Enter your email address
  8. Tap Manual Setup
  9. Tap Exchange
  10. When prompted, enter the following information:
    • Domain/Username: your email address*
    • Password: Your email password
    • Exchange Server:
    • User Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
    • Use Client Certificate: No
  11. Tap Next
  12. Choose your Sync preferences
  13. Tap Next
  14. Enter a name to identify this account
  15. Enter your desired display name
  16. Tap Next


*Please Note: If these fields are separate, the domain will be and your username will be your Shaw email address without

WiFi setup

To connect your Lollipop device to your wireless (WiFi) network, follow these steps:


  1. From the home screen, swipe down from the top of your display
  2. Tap the gear icon to open Settings
  3. Tap Wi-Fi
  4. Ensure that the Wi-Fi switch is in the On position
  5. Tap the network that you would like to join
  6. If prompted, enter the password for that network


If you are using a Shaw wireless modem you can find your network name and password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*.

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.

Common issues
