Android Lollipop PhoneLearn how to connect your Android Lollipop device to WiFi as well as how to setup your Shaw email account through an Exchange server.  While there are three options for setting up your email on an android Lollipop device, the preferred set up method is ActiveSync/Exchange. Microsoft Exchange (ActiveSync) is the most convenient way to setup your email and is recommended as it is the best option for users looking to check mail worldwide and from different computers/devices.

Preferred email setup: ActiveSync/Microsoft Exchange

ActiveSync (Exchange) offers advanced mail handling, less confusion for accounts connected to multiple devices, and synchronization with calendars and contacts. To configure your Lollipop device to send and receive emails using an Exchange Server:

 

  1. Ensure that your Shaw.ca email account password meets the minimum security requirements
  2. Open the Gmail app
  3. If you already have an email account in Gmail, tap the menu at the top left
    • From the resulting menu, tap your existing email account
    • Tap Add account
  4. If you do not already have an email account in Gmail, tap Add another email address
  5. Tap Exchange, if available. Otherwise, tap Personal
  6. Tap Ok
  7. Enter your Shaw.ca email address
  8. Tap Manual Setup
  9. Tap Exchange
  10. When prompted, enter the following information:
    • Domain/Username: your Shaw.ca email address*
    • Password: Your Shaw.ca email password
    • Exchange Server: wm.shaw.ca
    • User Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
    • Use Client Certificate: No
  11. Tap Next
  12. Choose your Sync preferences
  13. Tap Next
  14. Enter a name to identify this account
  15. Enter your desired display name
  16. Tap Next

 

*Please Note: If these fields are separate, the domain will be @shaw.ca and your username will be your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca

WiFi setup

To connect your Lollipop device to your wireless (WiFi) network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the home screen, swipe down from the top of your display
  2. Tap the gear icon top open Settings
  3. Tap Wi-Fi
  4. Ensure that the Wi-Fi switch is in the On position
  5. Tap the network that you would like to join
  6. If prompted, enter the password for that network

 

If you are using a Shaw wireless modem you can find your network name and password by looking at the white sticker on the top of the modem*.

* If you have customized your network name (SSID) and/or password and can no longer remember the login credentials, you will need to restore it to factory settings.

Common issues

Here are some common issues that you may come across as you try to set up your Shaw email on an Android Lollipop device.

 

Password does not meet minimum security requirements:
Before setting up your mobile device you should confirm that your device meets the minimum password requirements listed here:

Password is incorrect:
If the password you are entering does not match the one that you have setup on your Shaw email account than authentication will fail. You can confirm your password by logging in at webmail.shaw.ca
