I suspect my tv is dieing. The picture cuts out periodically. Now my cable box will not power on. Is it time for a new tv?
If the cable box won't turn on, it's possible that the issue is with it rather than your TV.
Which model of cable box do you have? And by TV dying, do you mean that the signal keeps cutting to "one moment please" or "check for signal" or breaking into little pixellated squares?
I have a regular box with an on light and messages label, not HD. When the picture cuts out the screen goes black, no sound. Sometimes it comes back on in a couple of minutes on another channel, usually channel 2 then I use the channel changer to get back to my original program. Yesterday the programs schedule periodically went off line but came back. Hope my answers make sense.
It sounds like you have our DCT700 - Hardware Information - Motorola DCT700. Simple compact model, does the job.
If the picture is going black and the sound is cutting out, it might be the signal between the box and the TV is dropping. Or it might be the tuner going on the box.
One point to clarify: When you change channel, are you changing channel on your box or on the TV?
Thanks for the help. ( and for correctly spelling 'dying')
That's the one. I think Shaw owns it so do I talk to them about a replacement?
I change the channel with my Shaw remote. The tv is second hand and I've never been able to set up the volume or on/off on the Shaw remote so I assume it's the same for the channels. (The set up screen opens but does not respond)
I guess what I'm saying is I probably need to replace my old tv. The question is do I need to replace my box?
The boxes don't die all that often... I would try it on another TV, if you have one, to see if it works (the TV controls probably won't without reprogramming your remote though)
Hmm. That brings us back to the original problem - the cable box won't power on. I've tried the 1376 setup code and 991. Any suggestions?
One shortcoming with this box is that you can't turn it on manually, you can only use the remote control. But the code 1376 is a correct one for programming it to work with the remote. Perhaps we should get a tech out to look at this for you. I'll private message you for your account info and we'll book a service call.
