Is the streaming box really necessary?

Just upgraded our plan, which includes the streaming box. But reading the instructions, it doesn't look like the box gives us any more functionality than we already have. We can access all of our subscriptions through our present TV, so what does the streaming box do in addition?

Put the box in a different room, and you (or your significant other or your teenager) can watch (maybe a different channel) while there.

The streaming box is used to view television programming provided by Rogers (former Shaw)

@michaelstein  Actually, this streaming box only has streaming apps, like Netflix, Disney+, Prime and etc., it doesn’t have cable tv channels.
