External Hard Drive on Gateway

I recently got a 4TB hard drive and connected it to my Gateway using the eSATA port.  It formatted and works wonderfully.  I'm curious about whether the Gateway is able to use the full capacity of the drive however.  I connected it to a Windows 7 PC and Disk Manager shows a partition a little less than 2TB, but I realize it's possible that Windows won't be able to make sense of the partition information from a DVR-formatted drive.  Is the Gateway able to use the entire capacity of the drive or am I wasting half of the space?
