Disable wireless?

I just purchased a new Asus router to replace my Cisco DPC3825 that Shaw provided. When I was purchasing it the sales rep informed me I needed to call Shaw and get them to disable my wireless, otherwise the new router would be a slave. Can someone clarify what he was talking about?
