Has anybody had their Shaw PVR not distinguish a new episode from a repeat one? When recording new Rick Mercer episodes the PVR also records repeat episodes on other date even though PVR is set to record only new episodes.
Are the other episodes that the PVR is recording also new episodes or are they older re-runs? Have you only noticed this with this one show? If the recordings are older re-runs did you notice if they are stamped with the correct information indicating that they are older? One last question, which model of PVR are you using?
Hi Heather, We use a Motorola DCT3415 model. The same problem also occurs with Murdoch Mysteries, but MM is only repeated once during the week but RM is repeated several times during the week. I do not look at the repeat episodes at the other times so can not determine the actual dates of the episodes from the descriptions in the Shaw guide. CBC and shaw have been looking into matter including checking codes in the guide but they say the coding is correct so I am wondering if other people are having similar problems.
Hey bbybruin, sorry about the delay in the response. Regarding this particular issue, what I believe is happening is, the PVR is recording every instance of the RM show or any series that you have selected. This is due to the fact that sometimes, the PVR can't differentiate between new and repeat shows.
Having said that though, I do have a fix for you, a work around if you will. Instead of selecting a series recording, what I recommend you do is record it based on a date/time stamp instead. That way you can assign a block of time to record, and this will avoid the PVR from picking up repeat shows as it will record strictly on a time stamp, and not a show name. Let me know if this helps.
