I'd like to know what typ of Modem is provided with an Internet 25 ??
I'd like to know if I can easily use my own modem/router instead of the one you provide ??
Thanks in advance
Typically we install our wireless modem/router combo devices (either SMC or Cisco), although we still have Motorola 5100 series modems (strictly modems only, up to 25mbps downstream). Only modems which are designated for our system can be used.
Even with our wireless modems, the internal router can be disabled though leaving the device to act only as a modem (if you wanted to use your own router).
Hope this answers your question. If you don't already have internet service with us and you're interested, we can help you with that.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Actually, I had in my mind the Cisco RV180W which is also a firewall.
One of the main reasons to use this or not is the wire/wireless speed I can have with your modem : I definitely want Gigabit with at least Wifi n (the best would be ac but it is so brand new, I don't know if it's realistic to expect that). For the security aspect, I don't expect a lot from a very common modem/router (unless it is much better here than in France)
No worries. Both of our current DOCSIS 3.0 wireless modems offer wireless n at 2.4GHz, but not ac at 5GHz. But they do both offer 1Gbit wired.
The both of Shaw's modem/router combo units have gigabit and wireless N, but the performance/features of your own router with this features will likely be much better
If you have already purchased the RV180W definitely use it, but if you haven't yet, you may want to look at one that has 2.4 (b/g/n) and 5.8 (a/n) wireless.
Chances are they will be very similar in features to the modem/router units you have in France.
