Earlier it was said there were upgrades coming to email in the fall. Is this still the case? Any chance this will also include enabling the ZImbra Outlook Connector?
Good morning dabell
Our apologies for the delayed response here, I just noticed this went unanswered for a few days.
We don't have any substantial upgrades for our email service planned for the fall. I know the Zimbra Outlook Connector has been discussed and is a popular request, we're keeping an eye on that one but there hasn't been anything officially planned yet.
If there was another discussion in which we said there were to be upgrades, I'd be happy to take a look at that and review. Let me know.
Is Shaw still running Zimbra 7 servers? Any plans to upgrade to v8 ? There was mention that upgrades were coming that would also resolve the issue with Windows 8 mail and attachments.
I'm not entirely sure about which version of Zimbra we use, that information isn't readily available as it's not relevant in most cases. The Windows 8 Mail attachment issue is ongoing, and we're of course aware of it. I'm actually going to send up a request to get an update on that, as it's been some time since we've spoke about it. I'll share any new info here: Can't download email attachments in Windows 8 Mail application from Shaw account
The information is readily available in the email headers - I see Zimbra 7.1.4.
The version is relevant as Zimbra's site indicates the issue with attachments will be resolved in Zimbra Collaboration Server 8.0.5. The 8.0.5 patch to v8 also included support for Outlook 2013 (another outstanding issue).
Good points dabell, thanks for the details.
I gather that these outstanding issues may be resolved with an update to the new version of Zimbra. There isn't any ETA on that yet, but again we'll be sure to share updates on that when possible.
The current server version showing 7.1.4 is nearly 2 years old now. The lack of infrastructure upgrades is affecting Windows 8 email and Outlook 2013. Time to either upgrade using those $$ from our increased bills or customers will simply start going elsewhere.
If Shaw can't support or handle the upgrade - why not just transfer all you email support to someone that can ? Hosted Exchange from Microsoft that works with windows/outlook is $5 per month for normal rates! Spend a few $$ per customer per month with someone who can provide the service you cannot.
Any updates? I have friends/neighbours buying new pc's - Windows 8 mail and Outlook 2013 are what they are expecting to use. Shaw needs to realize that everyone wants synced mail now between web, mobile and desktop. Please see if there is some information on when upgrades will be happening to allow this.
