I have new Nexus 4 cell phone and it has been set up with e-mail. I can send e-mails but cannot receive them. What is the problem?
I have taken it back to the Telus Store and they say it is a Shaw issue.
We are aware of an issue using exchange settings on Android 4.4 but POP3 should work fine for you. One of our moderators has confirmed that this is an issue which Google is working on. Is this the version you are running and the type of setup you have on your phone?
Yes I believe so. How will I know when this is corrected?
Not too sure exactly when Google will be coming out with a fix for this, but from what I've read it should be soon.
Just to be clear, you've got it working with POP/SMTP for the moment?
Telus set it up for me but I believe that is correct. How would I check it out for sure?
If you have it set up as an exchange account, you should find it under the Corporate section under the Accounts heading in Settings. If that's the case, then you can set it up as a POP account by deleting the account under Corporate and setting it up as just a new POP3 account with the steps here:
Email and Wireless Guide - Google Nexus 4
Think I found the right section and this is what I see:
Security type: SSL/TLS (accept all certificates)
Client certificate: none
Mobile Device ID: androidc455105186
Then a choice of :"cancel" or "done"
That's definitely exchange. So until Google posts their fix for this, you can delete this set up and go with the POP/SMTP setup for now as this should work.
Thanks, will give this a try.
If I read things correctly, the exchange is a better way to go though, isn't it?
Definitely, since it let's you sync emails, calendar items and contacts between your phone and Webmail.
Has this been corrected yet?
Unfortunately no confirmation from Google yet that the issue with Exchange in the Android 4.4 (KitKat) mail app has been fixed. As it's a pretty big issue I'm sure for Google-- affecting anyone trying to use Exchange settings (not just Shaw email users), I'm optimistic they'll release an update soon.
