I've taken my laptop from my house and am in Arizona. I can rec email but not send. I am on thier wifi and everything is working properly.
OK, looking closer to what we need. The error number 0x800CCC78 can mean that the Outgoing Mail Server does not have password authentication enabled. In the account properties window under the Servers tab, there should be a Outgoing Mail Server option. Please ensure this is checked and then click the Settings button next to this. In this window there should be a check next to "Log on using" and your email username (the part of your address before @shaw.ca) and email password should be entered here. Please let me know how that goes.
I beleive windows mail - cant locate anything that says remote access
checked the remote access didnt really help as seems to be more geared for phones and mobile units
everything was working fine from my wifi at home - nothings been changed but location
Thanks for checking into that phjelectric
Remote Access is typically geared toward phones and mobile devices, but more specifically it is used for when you're sending mail from outside of the Shaw network. This applies when using your laptop in Arizona. Basically, you'll want to make sure of the following:
Outgoing (SMTP) server settings In Windows Mail:
Nope - got a great list of nooooo
As long as you've done all of the above, it should be working.
What sort of error message are you getting when trying to send mail?
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was 'email@example.com'. Subject 'Fw: 55 Gostick - TUESDAY', Account: 'phjelectric', Server: 'shawmail.vc.shawcable.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 Authentication required', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
Well. im at a loss
Thanks, I confirmed that Remote Access is enabled. I'm just noticing now from the error message you provided though that you may not be using the correct outgoing (SMTP) for remote sending yet. It's showing that "shawmail.vc.shawcable.net" has been configured. This will need to be changed to the remote server "mail.shaw.ca," as shown hereHow to set up email on Windows Mail. Can you please double check that all of those settings are matching what you have configured?
Changed - still not sending
If you've changed the outgoing server setting to mail.shaw.ca, you repost the error message you're seeing now please?
The rejected e-mail address was 'firstname.lastname@example.org'. Subject 'test', Account: 'phjelectric', Server: 'mail.shaw.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 Authentication required', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
oh my i think it works YAAAAA
Thank you - now when i get home should i return it to its previous settings or leave as is
Awesome. Those settings will allow you to send from any location -- including your home connection. So no need to change them back
One more question - I also have a mozilla acct and dont know how to manipulate - sorry just found out its not working either
When you say you have a Mozilla account do you mean that you're using the Mozilla Thunderbird client? Or that you have a separate email from your Shaw email?
mozilla thunderbird yes - email@example.com i've tried changing everything to as windows but no go - mail.shaw.ca ssl password 587
We have a setup document for Thunderbird as well, it may be helpful to compare the settings as shown here How to set up Shaw email with Mozilla Thunderbird.
Thank u all good. All great i mean - merry christmas cheers thx for your patience
Happy to help! Merry Christmas
