I have a new MacBook Pro, and would like to take advantage of the enhancements offerred by the new AC standard. Better connectivity, better range, more channels, less drop outs. It would be nice to have.
Appreciate the feedback, it seems supporting a newer WiFi protocol would require upgrading the modem hardware as well, I believe it was mentioned previously but there is a newer WiFi modem under testing, but I am not certain if it will support Wireless AC. That may be something under consideration for future hardware iterations. As you mention, the Wireless AC standard provides superior connection quality and range so it would be a good value-add.
Thanks [shaw]ali. I'm curious if there is any mechanism for customers to upgrade hardware if something significantly better is made available? I know with the current modem (Linksys), the signal strength isn't what I would like so I use an Apple Time Capsule for my wireless network.
As we don't have much information confirmed yet on the new WiFi modem which it was mentioned was under testing, exactly how it will be made available isn't something we know for sure yet (for example, whether it will be available to purchase as well to rent, whether it will be included with some internet plans, etc.) Generally speaking, though, if you're receiving rental equipment and there is other rental equipment available with features you need, exchanging the equipment out is not an issue.
