I have the right internet access but it will not accept my password for it? Can you help, because I have entered what I think is right and it is not working.
That shouldn't make a difference. I think I'll send you a direct message for more information though, that way we can be sure we're on the same page. Please check your Community Inbox.
Try resetting your modem (push and hold reset pin for 30 seconds) to confirm the WiFi password gets reset back to what is on the sticker?
Good evening, needtoknow.
Can you please provide a bit more detail such as the brand of wireless modem/router you are using? If it's a Cisco or SMC wireless modem that you received from Shaw, please follow Step #2 on this page https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1151#solution2. If you are using a Motorola modem with a third party router, please use the steps found on this page How To power cycle a Shaw modem and router.
We hope this helps! If you need further assistance, please include the brand name of the modem/router you're using in your reply.
The brand of modem is an SMC from Shaw. I still cannot set up my ipad due to the problem as indicated in my original question. Thank you for your detailed answer. I have had no luck yet.......I do appreciate your efforts to help me.
Did you have any luck with the above suggestions?
No Ali, I have had no luck yet....tried the suggestions the tech support have offered me but nothing is working.....keeps saying does not accept password. Very Very frustrating.....
Hey there needtoknow
Can you confirm if any other WiFi devices can connect properly with the password you are using? I'm wondering if it's just an issue with the iPad or with the wireless network itself.
My computer is working fine and it is connected....the ipad was working fine till it asked for the password. I can tell you that the password on the box got changed to my own name because some one was entering the site, and shaw tech advised me to set up my own password. However, it doesn't matter if I use my own, or the one on the box it is not accepting it. I am certain it is me.....I am not tech savvy one bit, I am green as can be, and thus I do not want to keep entering things in case I am only confusing it....if that is even possible. I know you are all trying to help me, and I do appreciate it.
No worries. Have you tried doing a full reset on the modem using the small button on the back? That will reset all of the settings do default, forcing the password to reset to what is on the sticker (the modem serial number). We always suggest that in these cases, especially when the password was changed at one point because we can't see what it is.
ok, I have just put a pen in the back, in the hole, if I am right, I believe that suggestion was made by another tech on here but I may have not done it right.....I will now work with my ipad and see what happens. I will let you know....thanks very much for your help.
it is driving e crazy....now it is telling me incrrect password yet it is also saying it failed to join the network...and yesterday the network was fine. Should I reset the ipad....although they tell me not to do this too many times.
Rebooting the iPad is definitely worth a try. Just turn it off and back on. No need to do a restore on it or anything drastic like that.
now when it asks for the password and I enter it it goes back to saying unable to join the network......do I need to close this down to do it, like I am opened to you, would that make a difference now?
ok thank you so much I am connected now and up and running......however, now I am tryng to set up my windows e-mail and I have put in the info which may or may not be correct...and now I cannot get this up and running, possibly the info I am inputting is not right....so I went to the info and tried to put in the shaw info but maybe I am doing something wrong. do I have to indicate pop serve and if so when and where....can you help?
Which email program are you setting up here? In our Email Setup article you'll find setup instructions for all the common email programs.
I am setting up my shaw.ca e-mail account...now after talking with some one at shaw and my password is now changed, all looked great but now it is rejecting my account name......yet the yahoo e-mail account works fine....wow this is crazy plus what no one tells me that I have to go into e-mail properties and get more info from there.....nothing in your instructions says this...well now can you tell me why it is rejecting my e-mail name
Just to be sure, right now can you visit http://webmail.shaw.ca and log in to Webmail with your email address and password? This will confirm that your password is correct.
Once we've confirmed that, we'll need to know which email client you're using (Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Outlook, etc...) and from there we can help you get that working.
I just checked it and it looks like it is working....I did what you asked me to do....I have set up Outlook on my ipad but prefer the windows live mail which I have on my computer....however, I followed the directions where I enter the info in Exchange and it tell me right off the bat that it will not work....now the i pad is getting the incoming mail but I still cannot send.
Matt.......................it is working...................wow......not sure what you did, some one along the way, out of the many of you, thank you so very much all of you.....it is working. Thank you, thank you......I stilll have much to learn but the e-mail is now working...thank you again to all of you and there has been many. ....
Hey for sure, no worries needtoknow. I didn't actually do anything from my end, but I'll totally take all the credit. Just kidding! I'm glad it's working for you now though. If you do run into any other trouble, just let us know here and we'll help you out.
No I cannot set up my ipad because of the password problem as I indicated in my original question. I am very frustrated.....
