The Shaw website no longer lists a "DVR Expander" for sale. Does this mean any eSATA external HD can be connected to the Gateway system and formatted for use as an expander?
We do not have a list of drives that will work or not. DVR Certified will be something mentioned on the box the hard drive would be purchased in with the rest of the information about size and other stats. If you go to any store that sells external drives they will be able to point you towards the options that are set up for that.
For a third party eSATA hard drives to work work they need to be DVR-certified and up to 6 terabytes for that to work with the system. You can see all the hardware info in regards to the Gateway system here! https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1265
Thanks for your reply. I saw that document, but what I was more concerned about is that since Shaw isn't offering an expander directly anymore, is there any information on which hard drives are "DVR Certified"?
I know this is old, but did you have success buying a non-shaw expander hard drive??
