We have three lap tops running off our router. Several times a day we all lose internet connection at the same time. Have tried rebooting the modem but it keeps happening. FRUSTRATED!
When you lose internet connection, have the lights changed on the modem?
Do your laptops show strong wireless signal at the time? Or no wireless signal?
No change, four solid green lights and one flashing orange on the modem. Laptops show disconnected.
Hey tstead, frustrating indeed.
When this happens, is there any way you can confirm that this is wireless only, or does it affect wired connectivity as well? In other words, have you tried plugging a laptop directly into the modem with an ethernet cable when the connection drops to see if it works?
Have tried that as well. Either get no connection or a very slow one.
Okay so it's not just wireless that's affected... I'd recommend that you run a reset on the modem if you haven't tried that already (instructions are here).
Have reset it once already this evening. If we lose connection again, I will try resetting again. Thanks
Ah okay, so you're saying it has already happened again even after restoring the modem (pin reset that you tried)? If that's the case, we should take a closer look at it from our end.
4 solid green, and one flashing orange would be the Motorola Surfboard modem, with your own wireless router?
If the wireless is showing disconnected, that is between your router and your computers - you could unplug the Motorola modem and it shouldn't show disconnected - to demonstrate it isn't Shaw...
I would suggest checking if there is an update for the software for your router and/or resetting your router back to factory defaults and try setting it up again.
Otherwise, try a single computer directly to the Motorola modem, seeing if the internet still cuts out - yes it would disconnect the other computers while testing
