I am surprised that there is no mention here (that I could find) of the recent fire(s) at Shaw in Calgary.
See Service Updates, Fire at Shaw in Calgary (Causing issues) and Shaw headquarters shaken by new fire scare for more info.
Fortunately, it appears that no one was injured.
We did send a System wide announcement to all seed group members regarding the situation in Calgary. You should have received an email about it no?
Our attention was focused with assisting customers on Facebook/Twitter and ensuring all teams had the support they needed during the outage.
I was still monitoring the Community however so I was available to assist with any questions that came up.
I checked and I can find no sign of one but that's no big deal. I just thought one of the non-Shaw posters might have mentioned it but, if they did get a notice then that would explain it. I can only imagine the hoops that you are all having to go through right now, so I am not expecting immediate answers to anything non-urgent. And I have nothing urgent at this time!.
I received a message in the morning on 7/12/2012 so have a second look for it. Of course we were talking about it on another forum but with that message I didn't think to comment about it here.
I hear it's a real mess and the building will need major work to return it to any kind of useful state.
I certainly hope shaw, redistributes or co locates all their services so a fire or disaster in one city doesn't take the whole country or province of shaw customers and services with it.
We only had a single hubsite worth of customers that actually went down due to the fire, and they were back same day.
Dude, are you misinformed or is the media and your press releases, according to the media and your own press releases it took out call centers across canada.............and other essential services hosted at that location. Don't downplay the impact please.
Hey prynce - We're definitely not downplaying the impact of the outage and we apologize if it came across that way. cdearborn was commenting on what the impact was for customers in regards to their services nationally.
If you haven't seen it already here's the press release w/ video:
Shaw apologizes for communication outages (with video)
I still cannot find anything. What was the subject line? I have tried searching for Shaw & fire and for Calgary & fire and that date you mentioned jetranger and been unable to find any email relating to it. I do get other emails from the online Community so it is a bit of a puzzle, not a big problem, except as it might relate to my getting, or not getting, future announcements.
The subject line I got was:
[Shaw Support Community] Announcement: Message for Customers
I can now confirm that I did not receive such an email announcement.
Did you change any of your default email notification settings? that might be the reason for not receiving the email.
My email settings are:
Which one affects these announcements? None seems quite appropriate.
Incidentally, do only the first Direct Messages in a communication stream generate an emailed notification? I do not seem to get these notifications for replies sent to me.
Probably "everything in my inbox", since I have an announcement that matches the email there.
It would be nice to be able receive just announcements though.
When the announcement was created about the incident you should have also received this in your Inbox. This is how it displayed in my Inbox:
If you set your inbox to show read items can you find it amongst your other notifications at the 1 week ago mark?
I found it in my Inbox but it looked like:
Clicking on it produces what you displayed morgand.
I's still like to know how to set up my email settings to be notified of such announcements.
Oh, searching for fire produces only this thread - not he original announcement by [shaw]kelly.
Also why is [shaw]kelly not @[shaw]kellys?
