I am wondering why I have HD channels in my line-up that have no picture...only sound? I've tried to find out about the channels on the Shaw website but there is no information. What's up?
The most likely reason for this is that you're trying to watch a channel that uses MPEG4 video on a HD cable box that does not support MPEG4. Basically all of our new and newer hardware supports MPEG4, if you're using an older box it may not.
There are more details and information on this here: Guide to MPEG4 Channels and Digital Cable Boxes
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
So...channels 229, 235, 240, 247, 248, 249, 252, 253 & 254 are restricted to those that can afford to upgrade their equipment?
Yup. To be succinct.
Those are all MPEG4 channels, yes. I understand affordability of new equipment can be an issue in many cases. It shouldn't be too far out of reach though, there are many options for getting a new cable box. Easy Own (financing) is fairly inexpensive on a monthly basis, plus we now offer service agreements which include rental equipment. Our newer packages even include a regular HD box as a free rental. So depending on which packages you have with us there's a good chance something can be worked out. Let me know if you want to explore these options further and I'll message you for more information.
