Are individual channels now available to subscribe to outside of a bundle?
I believe that some are but they are expensive, I subscribe to 2 of them at $3.99
We can blame the CRTC as they force Canadians to subscribe to certain channels regardless if you want them or not.
As I understanding it, last week the CRTC ruled that providers must provide individual channel subscriptions to their customers, but I'm not sure when the ruling will come into force or it Shaw has already been doing it.
We have over 40 "Pick and Pay" channels available that can be added to the majority of our TV packages. We are working with our online team to get these displayed on Shaw.ca.
You can view many of the channels by visiting http://shawpersonalizer.ca. Select Premier TV or the Large Bundle and then "Pick and Pay." Again, most of these channels can be purchased individually with any of our TV packages.
Here are a few examples:
We hope this helps!
I think what we are looking for is true 'a la carte' programming choices. Outside of the CRTC mandated 'must carry's, we would very much like to just pay for the channels we actually watch. Certainly the price per channel on an individual basis would be more but it would mean we could likely lower our monthly bill. The net effect could be a win/win but I'm pretty sure there are factors that are not made public that affect this as an option. It would stand to reason that if Shaw could make more money on a 'per channel' basis, why wouldn't they jump at the chance of increasing profits? I haven't been able to get a transparent enough explanation to justify why they have not embraced this model but it likely has to do with long term contracts that have been signed with the program providers.
