I recently switched from Telus to Shaw phone and have noticed a big increase in telemarketing and nuisance calls. Very annoying!!! Can you tell me why this is happening?
If you're noticing an increase in telemarketing calls, I'm guessing you changed your phone number when moving your phone service to us. This can happen for example if the number you got was previously included in one or more marketing lists. It's an annoyance to say the least, I know, but you do have some options. You can register for the Do Not Call list here and if available with your level of phone service, you can enable anonymous call blocking (which will help with calls from private numbers).
If you did not change your phone number though and ported your number from Telus to Shaw, the transfer of service from one provider to another would not be a direct cause of an increase in unwanted calls.
Hopefully this helps. If you're still receiving unwanted calls despite taking the steps above, your phone number can always be changed at no charge.
I didn't change my number, have had the same number for 13 years, and am on the "DO NOT CALL" list. Guess it must be coincidence. I'll see about call blocking as I don't really want to change my number.
Sorry nlefeaux, completely neglected to mention call blocking, which will work provided the numbers calling you are available and not spoofed. You can find more details on this here. It can be enabled through star codes on your phone or through the Phone Portal.
