I am not able to build my own and want to purchase one that is compatible with the Arris gateway. apparently shaw does not sell them anymore or are 'out of stock'. I want a 3 TB one and Future Shop and Best Buy don't carry them. Thx
What I would recomend is going to MemoryExpress in Edmonton, getting the case, cable, and drive, they'll put it together for you
There are a couple of posts around here with their product IDs required
First to note that when Shaw offered expanders, only 500 GB and 1 TB sizes were offered.
It might be easiest for you to go to a place like Memory Express (or similar PC parts shop) and buy an eSATA external enclosure and a 3TB drive to go within.
I'm an old guy and just wanted something simple to plug and play. some others have suggested that I build my own but I would be clueless on how to go about that. Is there a way to add memory to the 500 GB internal drive? 500GB is small when I record HD movies and shows.
Is there a Memory Lane in Edmonton? I'm not sure what you mean by an external enclosure.
Thanks for the advice.
I'm not aware of safe (and easy) way to install a larger internal drive, and would likely void any warranty. The easiest way is to add an expander. Finding a 1TB eSata external drive from any store (Best Buy, Future Shop, etc) should be easy. But 3TB will be less common to find, I've only seen them thru online orders (NCIX, Amazon, etc)
Memory Express has 2 locations in Edmonton. See this page for address... Memory Express. I've heard good comments about them. An external enclosure will allow you to place a standard computer hard drive (of any size) inside it to allow easy connection (via eSata, USB, etc) to any device. If you're still interested in 3TB, hopefully the help at Memory Express would put together the enclosure and HDD for you.
