can't send or received email in outlook 2007 on my laptop. any help would be greatly appreciated..
Hey there grammymoo
I'll be happy to help out with that. Which sort of error message or problem are you encountering?
I'd recommend starting by making sure all of your settings are correct in Outlook. We have a guide that covers everything here: How to set up Shaw email using Outlook 2007
i did all the resetting according to outlook 2007 and then sent myself a message. I guess it didn't work as it is still the the outbox. What next??
got the following message Ox800CCCOD. maybe this will help..
Thanks for providing the error message you are receiving. This usually comes up when there is an issue with the out going server name or settings on the account. Can you check your account and ensure that the outgoing email server is set to mail.shaw.ca. As you are on a laptop we want to ensure that authentication is set on this server and the port is listed as 587. In the link [shaw]colin provided you will want to make sure that the settings match what is listed in Configuration 2 half way down the page as the settings for a desktop and laptop are different.
I would also ask that you check your online account and ensure that
Hi grammymoo. Are you still having an issue with sending emails in Outlooks 2007? As willie suggested, did you make sure that remote access is enabled?
Complete any recent updates from windows recently?
no i haven't done any windows updates recently. this problem has been since last March when i got back from my vacation. I would be okay with using webmail only except that when you want to email a document the choice is outlook and not webmail, otherwise i wouldn't care. Shaw was very helpful trying to help me out with this some time back but they couldn't seem to find the problem either.
Outlook was working before you went on vacation, and "failed" when you returned?
What is the history here that we're missing? Did you take the laptop with you? maybe inadvertently changed settings elsewhere for a connectivity issue?
yes, i did take the laptop with me and have done this for many years. i did not change anything and when i returned shaw was very generous with their time trying to find a solution but couldn't. do you know if there is a way to email an attachment through webmail?
sorry... I use Outlook, wireless?, and what are your port settings?
have no idea what the port settings are or where to find them.
I believe what nightwriter means by port settings is the port number you are using within the email program. You would find this by going to the advanced tab in Email settings. Here is a snap shot of what the screen should look like:
If you are using a local server such as the Calgary one "shawmail.cg.shawcable.net" then the port numbers on this screenshot would work fine but if you are using the newer servers, pop.shaw.ca and mail.shaw.ca your settings should be 110 for the incoming and 587 for outgoing.
The next thing I would recommend is running your email program after restarting your computer into safemode with networking. Instructions on how to do this can be found here
Let us know how that goes
I just checked and there appears to be that option though shaw's webmail. Log in, new message.. the option is there.
