what is the Webmail setting that allows you to change whether msgs are marked read or unread?
There are two ways to mark a read email as unread -
1. right click on the email and chose "mark as unread"
2. left click once on the email and hold down MU (but don't hold M down too long before clicking U or it'll think you are trying to move it instead)
Conversely, if you want to mark an unread email as read, either click the email once or hold down MR.
Some of us prefer right click options, others prefer keyboard shortcuts. Give them both a try and see which one works best for you!
sorry, i wasnt clearer, i was also on a CHat with agent but it locked me out....
Its not about marking a msg after the fact, its about how it appears in webmail...after viewing and reading on a tablet when i go to webmail my msges are marked as read. However, my friend's are not.
If your tablet is setup with the Exchange email account type, reading your emails on your tablet will mark them as read in Webmail, if your tablet is setup with the POP/SMTP account type, the messages will not be marked as read in webmail
aha! Does that hold true for using a laptop, too to read emails on?
Laptops can't be setup at this time with anything other than Webmail, or POP/SMTP accounts
If you read your email in Webmail, the tablet (if setup with the Exchange account type), will have the emails marked as read, but any mail application on the laptop, will not mark emails as read in other locations
-If that made sense
ok, so if i have shawmail on my laptop, which you say is set up as POP/SMTP - then when i am elsewhere and use a browser to check my mail as webmail - the emails are never marked as read, even if i read them on my laptop already?
pls confirm, and thanks.
Yes, that is correct, if you read your email in an email application, webmail won't be updated on which emails you have read
thanks! appreciate your help, bye.
You are welcome
also, i am on mac, and dont have or use right or left clicks. does this have soemthign to do with viewing in either standard or basic modes?
there must be a preference for marking msgs as read automatically when they are read on another device?
