This is the second end of the month miss of an end of the month deadline for this to be fixed.Myself and several co-workers are seriously thinking of jumping ship.
this does not surprise me I have been complaining about this for over a year now got nothing but the run around
first nothing wrong
then just busy hub
then problem only in my area
then will be fixed by Monday (on Thursday)
then there is a radio wave interfering with the internet signal
now we are upgrading the system should be finished early Feb then mid Feb now should be underway in Feb

while dealing with this i have noticed some other odd things
starting with the rate shown on there website with my location as Powell river less than we actually pay for both internet as well a cable but when you ask for these rates oooops not available in your area but we do offer a lesser service for a higher price. funnily enough this is a prefect description of a illegal business practice called Bait and Switch
i worked it out and according to the advertised rates i pay 27 percent more per month than they show
now i can cut them a little slack as i am on a older plan so things may have changed but there's only so much slack
i also notice when checking the online bill brake down that i get billed 5 bucks for a extra outlet until just recently i only had two outlets one for the TV one for the internet and according to the rep they do not bill for extra outlets
he even tried to tell me that my bill doesn't show a extra outlet fee and when i suggested he look at the account breakdown he said he couldn't and if he did it would constitute fraud
the last rep i talked to promised "this wont just end here" and that he would follow up and find out what was going on
this was over three months ago now
anyways you are not alone in this issue just makes you wounder how long a company can fail to meet its end of a contact for every customer in a community before something gets done about it
If you are looking at the account break down, yes, there is a charge or the outlets, but on another line, it is credited back.
I think there is a science looking at the break-down There is a lot of details there, takes a lot of work to sort out, I think my breakdown shows ~$450 in charges, and then credits them back in other lines, there is less lines now than there used to be (seems they added quantity, so that 2 IPs shows as one line instead of two)
But yes, unless you really want to, don't look at the breakdown stuff, just look at the printed copy of your bill
yes i understand these opinion but there is no credit for the extra outlet i get a bundle discount of 15 dollars( a old offer for bundling 2 services when that's all they offer) a 9 dollar cable box discount and a 5 dollar modem discount.
is it maybe they (yes the famous they ) make these convoluted bills to easily explain away billing issues
listed on there site basic cable 43 dollars (including digital box)
high speed 10 55 dollars ( including wifi modem)
total before taxes 98 dollars
i pay basic cable 43+((12-9) extra charge for digital box and rebate for digtal box) high speed 7.5 65-5(rebate for having purchasing the modem)

total before taxes 111
now yes i get a bundle discount that brings the price down to the same amount as the first number but not really a discount then is it plus i am getting a lesser service not high speed ten but high speed 7.5
as well the 5 dollar rebate on the internet is because i purchased my modem from shaw where as they show high speed 10 for 55 including the modem
so high speed 10 55 dollars or high speed 7.5 for 65 dollars
cable 43 dollars or as i pay 46 dollars
i know it doesn't seem like much but add it up over 15 years and then add in the fact that my download speeds hover around 1.2 and have gone as low a .21
plus the basic cable shown on the website includes hd channels and i receive 0 hd channels
unless i use shaws magic math i get lesser service for a higher price
The 43 cable is 'Personal TV', the $46 cable is 'Basic Cable', both are the base package, but they are different
If I recall correctly, Basic Cable by itself allowed one TV outlet, 2-4 TVs was an extra $5, but a bundle with any other service, internet or phone, allowed 4 TVs, without extra charge. Internet and Telephone outlets don't count as TV outlets.
So if your bill has an extra outlet charge, you should try and get it fixed, and by their terms (I think) they should refund it to back when you first reported your bill was wrong.
yup you are correct they are different plans with the one that i pay 46 dollars for being a subpar plan for a higher rate and until recently the other plan was listed at 40 dollars.
once i raised a stink over this and the use of the illegal tack of bait and switch the next time i looked the price had gone up to 43 dollars even though this plan still isn't available in my town
now if this was the only issue ok that what we get for living in a rural community but you add on the super poor internet service and the continuous mis-truths about the internet service in talking to my neighbors everyone gets a different story one told me they were told it was probably because they lived in a old house and the lead paint was affecting it. you can notice this trend as even in this thread the reply is about the issue being fixed in February even though it is already March
if you take a minute or two and look at the other thread from local residents you will see this inconsistency as they have been telling me since October of 2013 about the planned upgrades to solve the saturation problem of course i have been complaining since 2012
if i lived in a larger center i would switch to a different service provider but there isn't really another option makes you wonder if they know this
now as for the refund from when i first noticed the over-billing this confuses me if i have been over-billed then i deserve a full refund of all over-billing not just from the point I found out.
now this might be a little off topic (and could come across as a slight which it is not meant to be ) but do you work for Shaw you come across as very knowledgeable (this is a good thing ) and a little pro Shaw. As well i believe you are located in Calgary so why would you hop onto a thread about Powell river. Again this part not meant as a slight or an attack just needed to ask
No, I don't work for Shaw (to see my non-pro Shaw, look for any of the threads that discuss internet upload speed )
Because for this, other than the slow speeds specifically in Powell River, it doesn't matter where you are
mcpropbc - We apologize that the upgrades in Powell River are taking longer than expected. As you were originally told, the upgrades were expected to be completed by the end of February. Rest assured that we are still working on the upgrades.
So we are now a week past the proposed date with no updates, and things are getting worse. below you can see the loss on our line, this happened around 3pm today on our business lines in PR as well and took down 4 of our business offices. You guys need to get your S*** together, If I fixed issues with our servers and data center like you guys maintain your equipment I would no longer be employed. 3 months and counting...

We're aware of the issue in Powell River and it is being looked into. An update to the area is in the works, hopefully we will make that happen soon and put an end to the frustrations there.
