Hi with the 125gb + 25gb more for being a Shaw Friend, will this be enough to just use internet for watching my shows and sports? Instead of having cable?
Depends on a number of factors... Which site you are using, quality, amount of time watching, device watched on.
Basic answer, try it and see how much data is used.
Hey warskull, I guess that really depends on how much you watch, how you obtain your content and if the content that you're looking for is available in another format. In terms of speed, 10mbps downstream is sufficient for streaming video in most cases and if you're simply downloading content, you're looking at 1.25MBps (mega bytes per second) downstream rate. Edit: 25mbps service would be recommended for HD streaming for example through Netflix.
Also, you'll want to keep in mind that our Shaw Friends service is only available with two or more of our core services (TV, Internet or Phone), so if you don't subscribe to our phone service, your 25GB of additional data would be affected if television service was removed.
That said, there is certainly quite a bit of value to be found in with your television service in my opinion, as it offers you immediate access to a multitude of content and allows for access to live events without any additional subscription to watch them live online (if available). It's also quite scalable when you're dealing with our Personal TV service, as theme packs and additional channels/channel packs can be added or removed as you see fit.
If you wanted to maybe look at making some changes or wanted some additional info on what you've got, let us know and we'll go over your options.
Thanks Matt, I have asked a lot of questions over the months because of rate increases of 33% over a year, no notification of phasing out "grandfathered" packages ( cut to the bone to get lower costs), and still really no new HD channels ( do not classify the 3 time shifted channels 217-219 as new channels). Reps looking into my accounts then saying that I am at the best that can happen, and waiting for the next increase usually in Sept to get me ranting again and looking at other options like this going to basic cable and internet, but then be increased again to offset down the road
