Upgrading from a Motorola DCT3416

We're at the point where a number of new HD channels won't play on the DCT3416. Seems we have to upgrade.  That opens up the option of upgrading to the Gateway system or going with the one from Telus or some sort of HDBaseT system and keep the Motorola, cut back our subscription and use Netflix.

The specifications and technical information on line on the Shaw site is terrible.  So I thought I'd ask here.

How does the main system connect to the remote units?  Looking at the back panels it appears to need CAT5e cable but since the remote units have a co-ax input is it done through conventional 75Ohm splitters and co-ax to every location?
