How do i get a really strong signal with wifi so i can run all of my devices off of it?
Wifi is a difficult beast to tame. Being that it uses air as it's medium, it's quite easily affected by multiple factors. shaw-fraser has written an excellent article on Wifi troubleshooting. You can find it here:WiFi Connectivity Troubleshooting . I've also posted a link at the bottom of that article for further reading on Wifi.
Wifi signal strength can be affected by other wifi routers on the same channel and metal structures.
1. Run this tool: Meraki WiFi Stumbler - You might need to update your java, to run the application.
This will show you the other wifi routers in the vicinity. The idea with this is to pick a channel with the lowest
number of access points (visually the lowest bar - look at the number underneath it to identify the channel you need to switch to).
2. Now goto your router config. and change it to the channel with the lowest number of wifi routers. To get into router config. Open up your web browser and paste this url: http://192.168.0.1/ it will prompt for username and password. If you have a Shaw router the username is cusadmin the password is the serial number of your router/modem which can be found on the sticker on the top of it.
Another good resource is one of the documents by our content developers: https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1043. Whether your wifi connection is down or weak, there's plenty of good advice to be found.
