I can't get a dial tone on my shaw phone. Followed all your instructions. Still no dial tone. Error message states "check tel line". What more can I do?
If you know where the phone modem is located, Might be a thicker motorola Unit, Check to see if the tel1 light is solid or flashing. As well Make sure you have a solid power, DS, US, and online.
I have run into times where the cordless base station or an alarm system may get stuck holding the line open.
You can also Connect a phone directly to the tel1/2 jack in the back of the phone modem and see if that works as it will bypass anything else connected to the house wiring.
Hopefully this is helpful
Thanks Dustin. I checked power supplies. Tel light is flashing for sure. I hooked up the phone directly to the modem and the error message and "in use" went away - but still don't have a dial tone. Could it be the Panasonic phone?
Always a chance, if it is a cordless set you can try removing the powercord from the panasonic Main base for about 30 seconds to clear it.
with the phone cord unplugged from the motorola Phone modem does the tel1 light turn solid?
I followed these steps and ended up with a dial tone. Only works in basement when attached to the modem - when I plugged back in to usual outlet (phone and power cords) I returned to the original error "check tel line".
Many thanks to dustin. for his excellent troubleshooting!
bgermann, it sounds like there may be an issue with the wiring to the phone jack. I'd recommend keeping the phone direct to the phone terminal for now until we can get a service call technician out. I'll send you a private message and we'll set that up.
