I set up my account on my macbook but it shows as off line. i am receiving messages but cannot send. I have changed to port 25 and turned off ssl but its still to working
Does it give any other error messages, other than offline?
-Make sure you 'Use Custom Port' rather than Default which just shows 25
As kevinds pointed out, make sure you click 'use custom port' rather than 'use default ports (25, 465, 587)'. The proper port to use is also 587.
A great walkthrough on setting up Mac Mail can be seen at How to set up email in Apple macOS Mail.
Let us know if you're still having issues sending!
shaw-lance does port 587 work without autenication as well, when connected to the Shaw Cable internet service?
Port 587 should work with authentication turned off as long as you are connecting through a Shaw modem. But if you are connecting outside Shaw, authentication will need to be turned on.
If there is a router between the device and the modem, I've heard conflicting reports on whether port 587 will work with authentication turned off. It might not work but someone told me they tried it and it worked.
faizkat - I would also recommend logging into Webmail and enabling remote access. Info on how to enable remote access is at Remote Access.
Seems odd... The mail server should see a Shaw IP, and not ask for authentication, whether a router or not shouldn't matter to the mail server
Was just curious
