does shaw have a plan to start whole home dvr or pve the same as cogeco, bell fibe or direct tv in the states
Our whole-home PVR is the Gateway, and it's already available. Check out Shaw Gateway for more information. If you have any questions we're here to help!
never seen this device on the shaw website or is it shown somewhere else
and is it for shaw cable or shaw satellite
just found it on the shaw website from Calgary and I bet it just a cable device not shaw satellite
[shaw]jeff provided a link in his above post. Also found on this page: Choose the right TV equipment for your entertainment needs | Shaw.ca. (3rd option down.)
Correct, it is for Shaw cable, not Shaw Direct.
thanks for the info next question does anyone know if shaw has a plan to have whole home on their satellite systems
I have a direct tv system as well which is satellite and it has it and I have had it for 2 years
I own a place in new York state and have shaw satellitedown there as well
thanks if anyone can help
Not too sure ssrbigguy. That's a question our Shaw Direct mod donovon may be able to answer for you though. I'm not sure if he's in today, but he'll answer you here as soon as he is.
You can also give Shaw Direct a call at 1-888-554-7827 to see if we've got an answer for you over the phone.
thanks for the info
No official plans for a networked or whole-home system on the satellite side. Just a quick note about your Shaw Direct system down in the states - Because we're a Canadian service provider, our terms of service and service area are within Canadian borders. Just be cautious if you self-identify to us as we won't be able to assist with systems that fall outside of our jurisdiction.
Have a great day,
shaw knows where my 2 nd dish is as I had to send them documentation of owning a place states side and a letter from the park owners that I am a resident there when I set up fro the home away from home program
I am 50 miles south of buffalo NY
Over the last year we have made changes to our Home Away From Home program (Now called our 2nd Home program) and we no longer can provide support for our services used outside of our designated service area.
The one flaw, as I see it for a whole home PVR is the 500GB internal HDD. 500GB for a family is not going to last long. (If you like to keep entire series or lots of movies like me.)
Thankfully you can add a home brew expander up to 6GB. (2 3TB drives raided together on PC in a dual HDD expander.) I use a single slot enclosure with a 3TB HDD. Currently 69% full. (And I'm the only one using it.)
If you go this route I'd be happy to assist you with the enclosure and (recommended) HDD.
cogeco, bell fibe
These are not satellite services either, so Cogeco and Bell's fibe whole room PVR would compare to the Arris Gateway.
yes I got that impression hopefully in the near future they will catch up to technology already in use by other companies and implement it as bell satellite as well
