How can we operate closed captions with the remote for our HD PVR Motorala Box?
I know it can be operated at the box but want to achieve this with the remote.
Turning closed captions on and off are a bit different depending on whether you have an old guide or HD Guide box.
If you have an old guide box (such as 3416, 6416 or 3400), you will first need to turn the HD box off. Then push the SETTINGS or MENU button on the Shaw remote or on the front display of the HD box. Next scroll down to Closed Captions and move left or right to enable it. More options can be found at How to enable/disable Closed Captioning.
However, if you have an HD Guide box (in this case, 3510), you turn on closed captioning while the HD box is on. Push the MENU button on the Shaw remote, scroll to SETTINGS and then Closed Captions. More options on that is at HD Guide - FAQ and Troubleshooting.
Many thanks for your response re CC.
I am a senior with limited mobility ( wheelchair user ) so that accessing the cable box would be extremely difficult for me.
If replacing the box we currently have with the 3510 would guarantee that we could switch on the CC with the remote
I would like to pursue that option.
Would Shaw provide a quote on the equipment and installation required?
Your help is greatly apprciated.
Hi hthomson. You can turn CC on all our our digital boxes. For example, as per How to enable/disable Closed Captioning, here's how to turn on closed captioning on the older Motorola HD PVRs -
1. Power off your Digital Box, while leaving your television set powered on
2. Press the SETTINGS or MENU button on the Shaw Remote, or on the front panel of the Digital Box
3. Navigate to the Closed Captions option, which will either say Enabled or Disabled next to it currently
4. Press OK on your Shaw Remote Control, or SELECT on the front of the Digital Box to toggle between the Enabled and Disabled options
If you are using the buttons on the front of your PVR to turn the captions on and off, the same buttons and process could be done from the remote...
