I am trying to find a way to get rid of a virus called loa.teebik its annoying and mcafee cant delete it?
This isn't actually a virus as it doesn't display standard viral activity, which is why McAfee won't deal with it. However, it is certainly a "Potentially Unwanted Program" (aka PUP) and is one of the more annoying things you can get on your system. You should be aware of how you got it installed so that you can avoid it in the future; it got installed along with a piece of freeware that you downloaded and installed from a less than reliable freeware site. Frequently, free is not really free.
Anyway, there are several versions of loa.teebek and some take some different procedures to remove. However, for most of them...
1. Reboot your system
2. Remove the freeware (or whatever) that you intentionally installed
3. Reboot again
4. Check your hosts file (usually located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc). You may have to turn off "Hide Protected Operating System Files" in Explorer View Options to see the hosts file. Unless you've modified it for some reason, it should not have any entries other than those starting with a pound sign (#) indicating a comment or instruction. Use Notepad and remember to save it as hosts (if you just hit save it will save a copy called hosts.txt).
5. Download, install and run the "free" version of Malwarebytes (from malwarebytes.org - make sure it only download malwarebytes and not something else "free" as advertised by the download site as Malwarebytes doesn't have its own download site but redirects to others). Do a full system scan not just a quick scan. It should identify the loa.teebek entry and offer to remove it after a reboot.
Note, the malwarebytes scan can take a long time (I've had it run for hours)
Great tips from mlpullan. Let us know if you still have any troubles with removing this unwanted program from the computer.
